Harry pushes himself up into a half-seated position – or, as far as he can get with Tom’s weight in his lap – staring up in disbelief.
A familiar heat pools in Tom’s belly at the sight of him; lips parted, hair tousled from sleep and from their brief struggle, skin warm and smooth against the palm of Tom’s hand. It would be so easy to just… But he can’t let himself get distracted, not yet.
“Tom?”
“Hello, Harry.”
OR: They are NOT dating. Definitely not. But when Harry suddenly starts ignoring Tom… Well, we just can’t have that, can we.

Draco nodded non-committedly, taking a small sip from his own glass, when the conversation took an unexpected nose-dive.
“It’s all fine and dandy with me if he wants someone younger. A lot of men do, you know. A little fling on the side with some pretty young thing. But of course, Lucius goes and choses the most…” Narcissa Malfoy scowled, raising her wine glass with a scoff. “Your father always was an ass-man.”
In retrospect, it all made sense of course.

Summary
Severus’ breath caught in his throat. There they were. Silhouetted sharply against the dirty-orange light emanating from the simmering cauldrons. James Potter was easily recognizable. Tall and broad shouldered, leaning over his slightly shorter paramour. Severus could tell from the way they moved, (from the noises they made), that they were snogging. Well, that was it then. Lily and James… Potter had won and Severus had lost. And, as if that wasn’t bad enough, now he was forced to hide while they enjoyed each other for Merlin knew how long.
“You’ve no idea how badly I’ve wanted to do this all week,” Potter murmured, sounding out of breath.
“Me too,” came the whispered response.
He bent down to lift Lily up—up so that they were hip to hip, forcing her to wrap her legs around his waist for balance, and Lily’s pale, lovely face appeared over his shoulder.
Except… except it wasn’t Lily.
It was Regulus Black.
OR: when Severus discovers that James is, in fact, not dating Lily as he’d feared, but Regulus, he decides to do anything in his power to keep it that way. Anything. This turns out to be a horrible plan.

Summary
Gavin is standing outside on the porch. Connor’s optical processors recalibrate automatically to adjust to the new lighting, allowing him to take in the scene before him in perfect detail. He can make out every tiny snowflake that clings to Gavin’s hair and to the shoulders of his leather jacket. He has leather gloves on and is holding something in his hands.
“Hello, Detective Reed.”
Not Gavin.
They have been on first name basis before, have been almost civil with each other. But one small murder attempt would be enough to set any relationship back. No matter how civil. Or maybe it wouldn’t, if that was the only boundary they’d broken.
Gavin takes his shot at redemption (or something like it). Connor isn’t sure he even knows how to give it to him. Things don’t mix well. They never do with them.

James stares at his best friend in disbelief, because what?
“Look, if you go on a date with Regulus, I can go out on my Moony date. My parents will realise that their stupid idea of cursing me with only getting to date once Regulus does didn’t work out because look at that, Regulus also dates! They reverse the magic, Regulus can happily go back to refusing to date anyone, I can go back happily dating Remus, and you can happily go back doing whatever you had planned to do this summer. Quidditch, I assume.”

The young man's already sullen expression twists into a snarl. "Do you think to command a na-baron, soldier?" he asks.
Duncan wants to spit at his feet. Instead, he says with forced calm, "Were I a rice farmer eking out a living in the fields, I would still tell you the same. This is not a question of titles. I am informing you, as one alpha to another, how best to care for your future mate." Then he says, more firmly, "Paul will enjoy it more if you're gentle with him." Out of everything, this is what Duncan is most desperate to impart on the Harkonnen.
But Feyd replies with a black-toothed grin, smug and self-assured. "Paul will enjoy me regardless."
"There's more to attending to an omega's needs than just your knot," Duncan says through gritted teeth.
