Hubris and loyalty. Fatal.
When Percy and Annabeth’s wars are won and the prophecies are about other people, it’s almost easy to forget. Hubris becomes Annabeth refusing to admit she’s wrong. Loyalty becomes Percy’s tendency to put the needs of others before his own. Peace lulls memory into rest, slowing the mind and the heart until they are fickle things. Peace itself is a fickle thing.
They still train—they are still demigods. War is in their blood, running through their veins alongside humanity and divinity. It’s never over.

The sound of rain pattering down on the fire escape outside the window pulled Annabeth out of her memories and she looked over at the window and watched for a second as a raindrop rolled down the glass. Noticing at that moment that she was crying herself as a cold tear fell down her cheek.
She opened the window and climbed out onto the fire escape, she didn’t bother going back for her jacket or an umbrella. She didn’t mind the rain and she wanted to feel it on her skin.
Annabeth turned her face to the sky and let the rain wash over her. Sometimes this was the only way she could feel close to Percy.

Percy Jackson is sent back in time with the instructions Save yourself . He's not sure what time travel rules are in play, but he's doing his best not to mess everything up while he looks out for his younger self. Only thing is... the monsters might not actually be targeting him. But why else would he be told to save himself?

SWOON. Betty worked hard to contain her emotions and not give away much on her face. But her heart was melting at the thought that he had taken the time to write a song for her. Two years ago, this would have been everything. Now, it’s everything.

She stands and pushes her chair in, movements heavy and sluggish. There’s an empty space, and then she’s tidied it up. The kitchen is neat, everything put away and wiped clean. Jughead stares at nothing. Betty’s keys rattle as she gets them off the hook, and he turns to see her standing in the doorway to the garage. “Where are you going?”
Betty shrugs one shoulder, mouth pressed flat. “Nowhere.”
Betty and Jughead marry, have a son, and then divorce. Enter Archie.

Or, Betty doesn't want to drag Archie down with her, but he's willingly along for the ride, even when she's trying desperately to get him to jump off. Yet, things are complicated and at times a little toxic, but sometimes the harder you push someone away, the closer they pull you back.
