Summary
Will had always wondered what he was. How he was what he was. He grappled with the constant self-conflict most of his life. But why should something coded inside him leave him terribly guilt-ridden? He thought of his mom and brother. He thought of them seeing him walk through the front door, blood-stained mouth and hands, like they had numerous times. They would have to pack up and leave again. Or, maybe this time, a time Will had felt coming for a long while, they would realize they couldn’t handle him. Couldn’t handle his desire, and couldn’t handle his hunger.

Summary
“I’m sorry.” Mike sniffled. His eyes were red, hands dirty with sweat. What was he sorry for? Not being there? Saying those things to him? Not realizing what he felt sooner? “For everything.”
“You don’t..” Will hesitated, foot tapping as he looked for the right words. After failing, he leaned forward and wrapped his arms around the other. It felt like a glimpse of heaven, and Mike couldn’t help but do nothing besides wrapping his arms back around him. He felt like he was floating up in space, like the moment would last forever. He was proved otherwise when Will pulled away, hands still on his shoulders. Mike’s hand was still on his back, thumb rubbing circles.
Mike was out of breath despite doing nothing, and now, tears were rolling down his cheeks. What was he supposed to say now? What was he supposed to do? Just..
“I love you.”
OR:
Mike and Will finally get to talk.

Summary
“Can you look at me?” Mike’s voice sounds strange. Thin.
Will slowly turns around. His eyes land comfortably on Mike’s chin, but he feels the boy’s eyes digging into his eyelids, so he forces himself to look up. This cannot possibly be what Will thinks it is. It can’t. Mike might tell him about recurring nightmares that’ve been bothering him, or the anxiety that’s been eating him up about his hospitalized parents, or maybe he’s going to start complaining about his withering relationship with El, but it cannot be that, right?
Or
Mike doesn't waste any more time repressing his feelings for Will. Breaking limbs with his badass mind powers is enough of a cue for him to confess.

One month ago, if you had asked Will Byers what he’d do if Mike Wheeler threaded his fingers through his hair, looked him dead in the eyes, and started leaning in for a kiss, he wouldn’t have said this.
He wouldn’t have said he’d be staring right back into those yawning dark eyes, one hand on Mike’s waist, the other against his cheek. There wouldn’t have been any lightning in his veins or blood rushing in his ears.
He wouldn’t have said that Mike Wheeler would be tilting his head in the opposite direction, eyes widening just the slightest as if asking permission, his mouth slightly parted.
He wouldn’t have imagined it at all.

“Look,” Will says, turning fully on the pallet to face Mike, one hand reaching down for the rough wood to find purchase and ground him. “Do you-, do you want to show me. Like-, like want to practice?”
Mike’s eyes widen but he doesn't say anything.
“Sorry, stupid idea, just wanted to help.” Will is trying to gather the words back up from the air between them and into his mouth.
“I never thought it was stupid.” Mike says, so quietly it's not much more than an exhale. “I suggested it first.” He adds, like it's a secret.
Will grips the pallet harder. “Show me. I really do want to help.”
Mike bites his lip a sec, and Will thinks he's going to say no, but then Mike's darting forward and pressing his lips firm and quick against Will’s. It's barely a kiss. Not romantic. Not enough to leave a scar. Will bleeds anyway.

Mike feels Will stiffen in his arms, and he whispers into the crook of Will’s neck through his own tears, “I’m sorry, Will. I’m so fucking sorry. I’ve been such a dick, and all those things I said, I never should’ve said them.”

Mike paused, clenching his fists around the railing until his already pale knuckles turned white. “I, I really do love El, and I can say that now, because I love El in the same way I love Lucas, and Dustin, and Nancy, and Holly, and my mom and dad. I just thought that that’s how it’s supposed to feel, until you gave me that painting, and I - I thought, and I hated myself for thinking that the painting would’ve been so much more meaningful, if it had come from you, Will. Summary
The first time it happens, Will classifies it as a little accident.
When he wakes, the morning sun is burning through the window onto their faces, and Mike’s cursing as he stands to close the curtains, stumbling all the way.
“Scoot over,” he grumbles, voice dry, and for a second Will can’t do anything other than sigh like a lovesick idiot. It’s a second too late for Mike, because he grumbles more words Will doesn’t catch under his breath and then physically pushes Will towards the wall to lay beside him, arm over Will’s middle. A second of silence passes, then Mike sighs, only to whine: “Fuck, my head hurts.”
Will can’t help it: he breaks down laughing, much to Mike’s offense.

Will drags himself out of the warmth of his bed, almost getting tied up in the thick duvet, and hurries towards the sound coming from outside his window.
“Jesus Fucking Christ!” Will jumps, and can’t help the profanities spilling out of him, but he giggles despite himself, there really isn’t any kind of threat at all. In fact, quite the opposite.
Because perfectly framed by the window, Mike is haphazardly crouching on a mildly stable looking branch, with a huge jacket and even bigger smile, as if this is an everyday occurrence. Will can’t help but sleepily grin back.

Now or never. "Hypothetically," Will says, spreading his palms against his knees and trying his best to control his erratic heartrate, "How- open of a marriage would you be okay with?"
Being a prince isn't everything it's cracked up to be, but Will tries to make the most of it.
