Summary
"Eddie?" Shannon picks up on the fourth ring. "Everything okay?"
"I kissed a man," he says.
The silence on the other end stretches for nine thousand years. Eddie can hear Shannon breathing. He can hear his own heartbeat slamming against his ribs. He stares at the apartment building through his windshield, at the lit window on the fourth floor that might belong to E. Buckley, and waits for his ex-wife to say literally anything at all.
"You what?"
"I kissed a man, Shannon. Just now. I was delivering food and he opened the door and I just— I kissed him. On the mouth. And I don't know why."
Another silence. Then a sound Eddie recognizes with dawning horror as Shannon trying very, very hard to suppress a laugh.
"Shannon."
"I'm processing."
"You're laughing."
"I'm processing." She fails spectacularly. "I'm sorry, I just— you kissed a man? Edmundo Diaz? The same Edmundo Diaz who wouldn't watch Brokeback Mountain with me because it made him 'uncomfortable'?"
"It did make me uncomfortable!"
"Yeah, Eddie, I'm starting to understand why."

Matthew laughs, a crowing, gleeful sound. “You got it, friend. But, true lucid dreaming is something only the boss of this place can make happen.”
Hob nods. ”Oh well. It’s been fun to learn about.”
”Why did you decide to try to learn more about your dreams?”
“It was my friend. He told me he would meet me in his dreams, and I guess I took that literally?”
Matthew snorts. “Your friend? I mean, they were obviously flirting with you, my man, because that sounds like a come on in every sense of the world,” Matthew says with what would be a smile, if he had lips.

After an off handed comment from his Stranger, Hob decides to learn to lucid dream. He dreams up a pub, and imagines some very strange customers: a talking Raven, a Pumpkin headed man, and a beautiful winged woman. Acting as bartender, he advises his dream friends about how to cheer up their boss, while they also advise him on how to approach his oldest friend, who he just might be in love with. But when the king of the dream realm decides to visit this peculiar institution, Hob might be in for more than he ever dreamed of…- Language:

“His shirt’s on inside out,” Josh commented to Linda. Eddie opened the door to the breakroom and tried to let it close behind him, but that did not deter either of his colleagues. “Is this a walk of shame?”
“Well, I am walking,” Eddie confirmed, rounding the counter and beelining to the empty coffee pot. “And full of shame.”
“What happened?”
“I stood him up,” he answered, shortly.
After what was probably a very involved silent conversation between Linda and Josh, Josh said, “Eddie, if you aren’t ready, I’m sure he’d understand.”
“I am ready,” he said, detaching the water reservoir with more force than necessary. “I didn’t do it on purpose.”

Eddie Diaz has been trying to get Firefighter Buckley to agree to a date for the last two months; so no one is more surprised than he is when he finally gets a chance—and blows it.
Or: Dispatchers Eddie and Maddie are both looking for a second chance. They just don't realize they want one from the same person.
