Summary
Since the fall of Jun Wu, the two generals had expressed a much greater willingness to work hand-in-hand instead of fist-to-fist. From time to time, Mu Qing enjoyed embarking on such missions as his alter-ego Fu Yao, while Feng Xin felt the same when he donned the skin of Nan Feng. Feng Xin calls for Mu Qing to assist him in a mission along the southern border. Undercover, Mu Qing acts as a master swordsman traveling with his disciple, Nan Feng.
Throughout their investigation, Nan Feng has a few realizations about his own feelings while trying to solve the mystery at hand. His politeness lands him in a troublesome circumstance, so his teacher Mu Qing must give him a lesson.

This was Feng Xin’s fault. Stupid Feng Xin and his incessant need to annoy Mu Qing as much as possible. Him and his stupid sexy voice, and his stupid hot face, and his stupid muscles. Why did he have to sound like that? Like a completely different scenario was happening altogether.
Mu Qing could imagine it. He did imagine it quite often.
When Mu Qing first notices Feng Xin moaning in response to a bite of good food, he tells him to quiet down. Feng Xin finds it amusing how much it annoys Mu Qing and starts doing it on purpose from then on. But Mu Qing has a secret: the noises Feng Xin lets out turn him on in a way he doesn’t want to admit out loud. The only way he manages to cope with his physical reactions is by retreating to his room and fantasizing about the cause of these noises.

“What?” Kuroo replies. He does—wholly and implicitly—trust Kenma with his life. He furrows his eyebrows at the question though, because why would Kenma be asking that now? “Of course I do.”
“We’ll meet you at headquarters,” Kenma says to Oikawa, reaching up to Kuroo’s face and flipping his in-ear off. The beginning of Oikawa’s protests get cut off and the sudden silence is jarring. Kenma pulls back, doing the same fiddling with his own in-ear before smiling. It’s a small, timid gesture, but it’s everything.
“Pi—”
“Follow me.” Kenma takes a step towards the door before glancing back. “…Stay close, okay?”

The voice, Feng Xin registered dumbfoundedly, despite the broken phrases in which it spoke mingling into each other, tumbling over each other so fast it sounded like there were at least four Mu Qing's speaking, was now clear as day and impossibly close, far too close to be coming from someone who had just turned, facing away from him. In an ultimate attempt to refute his suspicion, he let his mind flicker to their private communication array, only to find it firmly closed. He stared at Mu Qing’s back, wide-eyed, his mouth suddenly very, very dry. If he wasn't hallucinating, then there was only one explanation for what was happening:
He was hearing Mu Qing’s thoughts.
On a mission with his hated rival Mu Qing, Feng Xin is hit by a blast - and suddenly he can hear Mu Qing's thoughts. All of them. Everywhere. And what he learns makes him question whether he's ever known Mu Qing at all.
