Summary
In an effort to make Buck stay, Eddie has him blacklisted by every landlord in Los Angeles.
---
The first time it happens, Eddie doesn’t know what comes over him. It’s like he’s possessed.
His phone rings while he’s folding laundry, pairing together two of Buck’s dog-themed socks when he answers and hears, “Hi, is this Eddie Diaz?”
“Yes,” he responds.
“Hi, this is Claire Thornton with Thornton & Duncan Realty, I’m calling for a reference for Mr. Evan Buckley? He’s applied to one of our properties recently, so we’re reaching out before approval,” the woman on the other end of the line says.
Eddie’s stomach drops. Then the possession happens. “Oh, uh. Evan Buckley. Right.”
Claire chuckles. “That doesn’t sound like a great start.”
“I- listen. He’s a good guy, but an awful tenant,” Eddie feels like he’s watching himself from outside his body as the words leave his mouth. What is he doing?

Summary
“His shirt’s on inside out,” Josh commented to Linda. Eddie opened the door to the breakroom and tried to let it close behind him, but that did not deter either of his colleagues. “Is this a walk of shame?”
“Well, I am walking,” Eddie confirmed, rounding the counter and beelining to the empty coffee pot. “And full of shame.”
“What happened?”
“I stood him up,” he answered, shortly.
After what was probably a very involved silent conversation between Linda and Josh, Josh said, “Eddie, if you aren’t ready, I’m sure he’d understand.”
“I am ready,” he said, detaching the water reservoir with more force than necessary. “I didn’t do it on purpose.”

"Dad? I think Buck isn't okay."
"Why would you say that, mijo?"
"I use 'find my friends' to keep an eye on him sometimes. Since he doesn't come over anymore. You know the bridge we drive over to get to school? Buck's been there for two hours. The weather's really bad. He shouldn't be out there."

Summary
So, maybe that was how he ended up on the bathroom floor. Because he was trying to convince himself that he wasn’t alone. But he was. It was almost worse than when he was pinned under the ladder truck. That pain had been temporary, fixed with surgery, physical therapy, and Buck’s never-say-die attitude. But this pain didn’t have an easy fix. This pain burrowed itself under his skin and clawed at his insides, making him hurt in ways he didn’t think possible.

Summary
Buck fought back a groan, pressing his knuckles to his eyes. His head had been throbbing all day. It had been like that when he had woken up, a groan slipping past his lips as he had to pull away from Eddie’s warmth and force himself to get up. He had taken an extra shift, something he was slowly regretting as the twelve-hour shift dragged on.
This wasn’t just a normal headache. This was a stomach-turning, throbbing, light-sensitivity migraine. And no matter what Buck did, it just kept throbbing and throbbing, his head feeling like a drum in an elementary school band class. And while he wanted nothing more than to curl up in a ball and go home, he still had four hours left in the shift.

Summary
Occasionally, people’s names wouldn’t match up. It wasn’t common, and the only cases Buck had ever personally heard of had involved literal criminals, but it did happen. The other option– well. Either Buck was secretly a killer without knowing about it, or Eddie had taken one look at him and decided he wanted nothing to do with him.
In some ways, Buck couldn’t even blame him.

“So, uh, you come here often?”
“Do I come here often?” Buck repeats slowly. He does come here often. As does Eddie. They both come here all the time, at the same time, together.
Or, why ask someone out on a date when you can just take them on one without their knowledge? Sounds flawless to Eddie.

He'll just fix it, that's all, he'll just, just take it back and it'll be fine. It'll be okay, after a while. Maybe not right away, but eventually. Eddie loves him. Chris loves him. So if he can push it down, pretend these feelings aren't eating at him from the inside, make it smaller, be less, less, less emotional, less loud. He'll convince them, convince Eddie it's not a big deal, he'll get over it -
(He will never be over Eddie, not as long as he lives)
Then maybe Eddie will forgive him. And things won't change.
