It’s the subdued panic of a man who is attempting to stem the flow of water through a cracked vessel with only his hands, incapable of patching it before every last drop escapes through his fingers. The same look, in fact, that he had given Louis when he’d thrown a duffel bag at Armand’s feet and told him he had fifteen minutes to grab his shit and get out. “Lestat doesn’t intend to quit the company. He intends to quit ballet.”
In the grey stupor of London, Louis is preparing the Azalea Gallery's forthcoming exhibition and worrying about Claudia. He doesn't plan to add wrangling Lestat, principal dancer of the Royal Ballet and his kind-of-ex-husband, into the mix – until Armand comes knocking, and makes him an offer he can't refuse.

Ah, Louis should have known better. Too late to slip out now, all he can do is start his walk towards the exit as Molloy starts to follow. "What’s that?”
“I mean, the media’s all over this angle about how your husband and Lioncourt were like debate rivals or whatever at Georgetown Prep. Very cute, very fated to be enemies and all that.” He punctuates this point with what Louis thinks are supposed to be jazz hands. And then, he goes in for the kill. “But no one seems to have picked up on how you and Lioncourt were at Tulane at the same time. You guys know each other?”
Or: Polls suggest Armand, Governor of California, is a narrow favorite to become the 46th President of the United States. His husband, Louis de Pointe du Lac, is just trying to make it through the campaign season in one piece. This would be an easier task if his husband’s opponent was someone other than Louis’s ex.

Once Claudia came into their lives, they agreed to never smoke in front of her, regulating their little trysts to the early morning and late evening while she slumbered down the hall. Louis had tried to quit in the months leading up to her coming home with them, but as it turns out giving up multiple coping mechanisms at once during a time of complete upheaval is not the easiest task. And so their shared cigarette had become a little indulgence that they allowed themselves in the quiet hours of 1132 Rue Royal.

Summary
When they first separated, Louis and Lestat had both agreed to keep the courts out of their custody plans. Unsurprisingly, it was Louis who proposed and finalized their schedule, knowing Lestat would simply agree to whatever it was Louis had decided.
First rule of drop off was that it had to occur in a public setting. It kept the situation amicable, and most importantly, it kept Lestat behaving (most of the time). They would meet on Fridays for Lestat to pick up Claudia, and then again on Sundays for Louis to get her back.Or, Louis and Lestat navigate co-parenting Claudia and their feelings for each other as a recently divorced couple.

The lens is open. Moonlight shines a perfect spotlight onto centre stage. The motes dancing in the beam are from the ashes of a burned theatre, not his daughter. Still, the sight seizes Louis by the heart, squeezes him immobile.
Lestat is behind him, and then Lestat is before him, approaching the stage with a steady click of heeled boots. If he’s cowed by the events that transpired here, he doesn’t show it. He vaults neatly up onto its wooden surface and paces right through the spot where Claudia and Madeleine stood. Moonlight and ash and all of Louis’ love swirl around him.
