Aang says Sokka's depressed, Dad says he's just seventeen and it'll pass.
The thing is, he's not sure if he wants it to pass. There's a sort of sick comfort in the melancholy. Comfort in knowing that when he's still in bed by dinnertime and hasn't washed himself in nearly a week, he's at rock bottom. And you can't sink any lower than that.
Well, he could always stay here. Never leave, and never do anything worthwhile. Wouldn't that be something? A man who peaked at fifteen.

Sokka struggles with being back home after the war. Everything has changed, and yet he's still stuck right back where he started.

Summary
“Mornin'" Sokka greets him with a grin. Same grin as always. The one that’s only reserved for Zuko, according to all of their friends.
Zuko punches him in the arm lightly. "Not morning until you go to sleep and wake up." It's one of the nonsense arguments they've had going on for about a decade now.
They both laugh and Sokka pulls him in for a hug. They stand on the street hugging for almost a minute, not that Zuko is counting or anything. They haven't seen each other since New years, six months ago. That was the last time they were both home at the same time. It feels like it’s been a lot longer than that.
Or, Sokka and Zuko go swimming. The beach, as it tends to do, does help them understand both themselves and each other.

”Dude, we should go ice skating tomorrow!” Sokka says on a random Friday night in February. ”The temperature should be perfect, and it also shouldn’t snow until next week.”
”I’m afraid it won’t be all that fun. In case you forgot, I’ve never skated before.” Zuko replies as he looks up from his phone.
Sokka’s face lights up. ”That’s exactly what makes it fun! I can teach you how!”

Zuko has a crush on Sokka. Sokka teaches Zuko how to ice skate. They both fall, literally and figuratively.

"Come pick me up, let’s go to the store,” is the first thing Toph says when Zuko picks up the phone.
“Have you noticed that it’s one in the morning?” Zuko inquires.
“Yes, and I happen to know for a fact that your bedtime has been five a.m. for the past month.” She states, matter of factly.
And well, she’s not wrong about that. Zuko sighs. "Alright, I’ll pick you up in fifteen minutes.”

Toph struggles with her parents. Zuko is there to understand. And help her shave her head of course, because that's what friends are for.

Summary
Sokka isn’t stupid. Not that his sister is, mind you (at least, he’d never call her that to her face now that she’s honed her waterbending), or any of the rest of Team Avatar, although sometimes it feels like he’s living in a different world from the rest of them — a world where running out of food means starving, and walking into a town full of firebenders with the Avatar in tow will get you killed, rather than help you free a beaten-down Earthbender colony.
Anyways.
Sokka isn’t stupid, which is why he laughs directly in Aunt Wu’s face when she tells him that he will marry the Fire Lord.

Summary
Zuko has been working at his uncle’s tea shop since it’s opening five years ago. Back then, Zuko had been a moody, quick-tempered, and unbelievably repressed nineteen-year-old who had, up until that point, been trying desperately to please his sorry excuse for a father.
Now, after moving in with his uncle, changing his major in college from his father approved law degree to a much more Zuko approved English Lit degree, and a few years of therapy under his belt, Zuko likes to think he’s changed for the better.
For the first time in Zuko’s life that he can remember, he’s content in life, and that alone is enough for Zuko.
That is, until he meets the cute boy who owns the bakery across the street.

Respectively, Sokka and Zuko both feel like they’ve got their last summer before adulthood relatively scoped out. Spoiler Alert: they don’t.
