Kinda glad you dropped that last part, because I did maybe-sort-of stay the night. Potentially, I may have slept in your bed. I’d be more nervous to admit that if it hasn’t happened multiple times before.
I slept better than I have since before the World Cup. It was easier to imagine I was with you when I was surrounded by your things. I think every message you send me makes me more and more shameless.
Can I admit something? I’ve always wanted to hold you. We’re both reserved people, so it’s hard to read you sometimes, but I’m sure I was at least slightly obvious about this. I hope I’m not reading into the things you’ve been saying recently wrong… Go ahead and delete this voicemail from your memory if that’s the case, hahaha.

Graduation was meant to be the turning point. A new city, a new beginning, a chance to finally leave the pain of his old life behind. So, when things didn’t change, Jamal returned to his hometown but remained invisible and still too different to ever truly blend in.

Summary
Why does it bother him so much? Why does seeing his best friend with someone else make him feel so irritable, as if Michael was personally doing something to provoke him?
Jamal rubs a hand over his face, and thinks it must be jealousy. He is jealous of Michael because Michael seems to have everything figured out. He’s older, more experienced, and has his shit figured out. All of their friends are around Michael’s age, and Michael was the one who introduced Jamal to half of them in the first place. Jamal has spent years following him around, trying and failing to catch up.
Or: Moving in with his best friend for university was supposed to be nothing short of a dream. While it's perfect in almost every aspect, Jamal Musiala can't figure out why he gets so bothered every time Michael brings a girl home.
