Chapter Text

"Th'hell are you doing, Deku?"

Midoriya jerked from where he was writing in his notebook, glaring up when Bakugou laughed at him. He closed his notebook and stood up, "You know exactly what I'm doing, Kacchan."

Bakugou followed the green haired male along the path with his arms behind his head, "Why're you doing that out here this late? Mom's gonna flip out on you."

"She flips out on you, not me," Midoriya huffed, crossing his arms as he walked back to the house.

"The old lady doesn't only freak out on me! She's done it to you, too!"

Midoriya turned to the blonde, narrowing his eyes, "She can sense fear, that's why she flips out on you only."

"Shut the fuck up!"

Midoriya yelped and sprinted away from Bakugou when he started to run at him. He flung open the door and closed it behind him, covering his mouth to muffle a snort when Bakugou completely slammed into the door.

"DEKU!"

"Boys, you better keep quiet! I'm making dinner!" Mitsuki called out from the kitchen.

Even after Midoriya pushed away from the door, Bakugou kept banging on it and yelling curses at him. At that point, Mitsuki came out with a glare, "Katsuki, what the hell are you doing? Open the door!"

The banging stopped and the door opened, and Bakugou was pissed. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say he was literally steaming. Mitsuki grabbed him by the shirt and yanked him over to the couch, "Sit down and be quiet! Both of you!"

"Yes, Mrs. Bakugou," Midoriya said, going over to st down.

"Izuku, I keep telling you to stop the formalities," Mitsuki sighed, lowering her hand with the spatula. "You've been living here almost your whole life."

Midoriya rubbed the back of his head, "S-sorry, I guess it's a habit, Mom."

She smiled at both of the boys before going back into the kitchen to continue her cooking.

Bakugou pulled both of his legs up on to the couch and crossed his arms, "Senses fear, huh.. bullshit."

Midoriya just went back to writing in his notebook, not listening to Bakugou's bickering. The notebook he was scribbling in wasn't his typical one with hero data, but more of a journal.

Masaru had quietly brought it up to Mitsuki when he was younger, and they both talked about it before offering it to him. Midoriya was honestly excited about it, so he began a daily journal. Despite this, it didn't stop his weekly therapist visits.

In this entry, he made an angry doodle of Bakugou banging on the door, and remembering what had just happened made him snort.

"Th'hell are you laughing about?" Bakugou glared. "Are you writing about me again?"

"I-it's my journal entry," Midoriya said.

Bakugou didn't speak on it again, just sunk down even more in to the couch and glared at the wall.

Although Mitsuki had told him Midoriya's journal was for him only, the boy would let him read through it every now and then. He trusted Bakugou more than his therapist, surprisingly.

Midoriya scribbled the date at the top of the page when he finished, sending a quick glance to Bakugou. He sat up straight, "D-do you want to read it?"

"Not if ya don't want me to."

"I-it's fine!"

After a momentary pause, Bakugou sat up and took the notebook held out to him. He looked down at the page, immediately noticing the doodle of him. He scowled at first, but went up the page to read the entry before he would let himself explode. At the end, he let out a breath through his nose, a subtle laugh, as he handed it back, "You're art is still shitty."

Midoriya pouted as he took his notebook back, "That's just mean."

"That's just the truth."

Midoriya huffed, closing the notebook and clasping it shut. He slipped the pencil in the sleeve on the spine before standing and heading down the hall to their shared room.

Sharing a room wasn't as bad as someone would think; they had a shared admiration of All Might, so the posters were welcomed in the environment. Midoriya's side was kind of plain, save for the posters hung on the wall and the desk with school supplies strewn across it. Bakugou's side was a little messy, but it had more personality than Midoriya's. Perhaps because it was rightfully his own room, and the other boy felt as if he shouldn't impose too much.

He walked over to his desk and crouched down to his backpack, unzipping it and slipping the notebook inside. He jumped back up and bounced on his feet as he leaned over to skim over his calendar. He scrunched his nose at the notes he made about a test, but also his therapy appointment the next day.

He sighed, walking out of the room and going back into the living room. Bakugou was gone, presumably in the dining room. Mitsuki called out, "Izuku!"

He hurried into the dining room, not wanting Mitsuki to yell again. He took his seat at the table. Masaru was helping put plates on the table, and as he did so, he talked to the two boys, "How was school today?"

"Boring," Bakugou muttered.

Midoriya would usually object, but he just kinda nodded in agreement. It was all notes that day,
and it dragged on, and on, and on...

"Are you two getting ready to apply to high schools?" Mitsuki questioned as she began putting food on the plates.

"We all know I'm getting into UA!" Bakugou said smugly.

"What about you, Izuku?" Masaru asked.

The questioned kinda made him sink into his seat. He hadn't been thinking about high school, mostly because he was dreading it. Yeah, he had a quirk... but he had no idea how to use it. He didn't even tell anyone about it. For all they knew, he was--

"He's quirkless, th'hell is he supposed to do?" Bakugou barked out.

"Katsuki!" Mitsuki scolded.

"I-I haven't really been thinking about it," Midoriya murmured. "Definitely not... U-UA or anything..."

Maybe he'd pick a school without the hero course. He'd never be a hero, anyways... quirkless or not, he was kinda useless.

Dinner was quiet that night, and Midoriya helped out with the dishes afterwards.

"Izuku, we both know you're not quirkless..." Mitsuki said quietly as she dried off a dish.

Midoriya stopped washing a plate, staring down into the sink. He frowned, "... I know."

Even after living with them for the majority of his life, he'd never once exposed what his quirk was. He accepted everyone's ridicule, as always...

He finished washing the dish he held and gave it to Mitsuki to dry. She began wiping it down and spoke, "I can finish up, go out into the living room."

He nodded, drying off his hands and walking out of the kitchen. In the living room, Bakugou was playing a video game. He glanced over to Midoriya before looking back to the screen, "Wanna play, Deku?"

"Kacchan, you know I don't know how to play it..."

"Y'gotta play it to learn, dumbass! Grab a controller!"

Midoriya sighed, but had a small smile as he grabbed the extra controller and turned it on. Bakugou finished the round he was playing before switching it to fit two players, and they began to play, Bakugou giving some tips throughout.

After a good two hours, Midoriya had a good grip on how to play, even beating Bakugou a few times. After the third win, Bakugou flipped out and tackled him, causing Midoriya to shriek. But, Bakugou didn't grapple him like usual, he jabbed at his sides, making Midoriya shriek with laughter.

"Oi, oi, it's late out, keep it down," Mitsuki said from the doorway.

Bakugou leaned back and grabbed his controller. Midoriya was breathing heavily on his back, but with a smile on his face. He yelped when Bakugou jerked his leg, "C'mon, next round's starting."

Midoriya sat back up and picked up his controller just in time to begin the round.

It seemed a little too soon before Mitsuki stated that they needed to go to bed, since they had school in the morning. Bakugou turned off the gaming system, taking the controller from Midoriya and putting them away. The two of them got ready for bed, but not without a few jostles every now and then, and a momentary argument on some random subject.

Bakugou shoved Midoriya's shoulder when they entered their room, "Didja take your medicine?"

"Oh!" Midoriya bolted out of the room at that, and Bakugou just sighed heavily as he sat on his bed.

Mitsuki was still in the living room when she heard Midoriya run down the hall. She turned her head, "They're on the counter."

He ran into the kitchen, soon coming out with pills in hand and a bottle of water, "Good night!"

Midoriya went back into the bedroom and closed the door behind him, sitting on his bed. He took the cap off of the bottle before dumping the pills in his hand into his mouth, swallowing them down with the water.

Bakugou cringed, "How can you do that?"

Midoriya began putting the cap back onto the bottle, "Ooh, Mr. I'm Gonna Be Number One can't swallow more than one pill at a time?"

"SHUT UP."

He laughed, but the question lingered in his mind. What he had taken were an array of his medications and vitamins, most of which he didn't know the names of. He'd been taking them for years, but he didn't really know why. Perhaps he should look up what some of them were for, but Mitsuki was always very careful with his medications... She'd only let him take it if he really needed it, she even got into a fight with a doctor one time.

He shook it off when Bakugou turned off the light, and the both of them went to sleep.

"Izuku, Katsuki! Get up!"

Midoriya was up within a second, jumping from his bed and beginning to get ready for the day. He'd always been energetic in the mornings, very unlike Bakugou. The boy groaned and pulled his blanket over his head as Midoriya was getting ready.

Midoriya grabbed his backpack before leaving the bedroom dropping it against the couch before heading into the kitchen. Mitsuki set a glass of water on the table as he walked in, "Are you eating breakfast today?"

Midoriya nodded, and he sat down to eat. He'd been skipping breakfast a lot, but mostly because a side effect of his medications was a lack of appetite. He usually had to eat a bite of something so he could take his morning medications, though. This morning he was feeling pretty good.

After a few minutes, Mitsuki left the kitchen, most likely to try and wake up Bakugou. He'd been sleeping in later and later, but when he was up, he would get ready in five minutes flat. Bakugou came into the kitchen with a scowl, but sat down silently to eat. Mitsuki set a few pills beside Midoriya's plate, "Remember your therapy is right after school, Izuku."

She chuckled at the face he made, "C'mon, Katsuki goes with you, it can't be that bad."

"Maybe he should see the therapist too," Midoriya grumbled to himself.

"What'd you say, dumbass?!"

"Point proven."

Midoriya quickly downed his medication before getting up and putting his dishes in the sink. He got up and went to pull on his shoes, Bakugou coming out after him to do the same.

"Be careful on your way to school," Mitsuki said, "there's been more villain cases nearby."

"I'd just kick the villain's ass!" Bakugou said, slinging his bag over his shoulder.

"You'd blow up the entire block," Midoriya scoffed, walking out the door with his bag.

Mitsuki roughly ruffled Bakugou's hair, "Just be safe."

Bakugou grumbled to himself as he followed Midoriya out, catching up to walk alongside him. Their walk to school wasn't very long, but it was silent when Bakugou walked with him this time. He'd usually ditch him for his friends, but there were some odd days where he would stay with him all the way to homeroom.

Midoriya never really knew why he did it. Typically the guy would be picking on him or trying to get the homework answers, but he just kept his hands shoved in his pockets.

"Are you ready for the test tomorrow, Kacchan?" Midoriya asked.

"What about you?"

Okay, maybe Bakugou wasn't as much as an ass as people made him out to be. He was one of the only people who understood Midoriya's situation, and his explosive behavior was toned down around him. Of course Mitsuki had a hand to play in it, but he really wasn't a bad guy.

"T-the tutoring session is tonight after therapy..." Midoriya said quietly.

There was no need for an answer; Bakugou always came with him to those sort of things. He didn't need the extra help, and some of his friends ridiculed him when they found out he went to them. That didn't stop him, though.

They parted at homeroom to go to their assigned seats, and the boring school day began. Mostly review for their upcoming tests, but just before lunch, their teacher spoke.

"Before lunch, I wanted to bring up the topic of your high school admissions," the teacher said.

Midoriya immediately felt himself sinking into his seat. The teacher went on to talk about the schools offering hero courses, but he blocked it out. Everyone around him chattered about the schools they were applying to, grinning about getting into the hero course.

It seemed like forever before the teacher dismissed them, and Midoriya quickly grabbed his lunch and left for the cafeteria. He took his usual seat, where he'd sit alone most of the time. Bakugou would sit not too far away with some friends, but Midoriya usually took this time to do some school work, so the other tried not to bother him.

"You're going to UA, right, Katsuki?"

Bakugou rest his head on his hand, "Hell yeah I am."

"I heard the practical exam is hard," another friend commented.

"Doubt it."

Everyone lifted their heads up when there was a loud clatter. Bakugou lifted his head and looked to where it came from, scowling.

Just a few tables over was Midoriya, and the books he brought with him were scattered all over the ground. One of Bakugou's supposed "friends" was standing over the boy, laughing about how someone quirkless wouldn't get into any good high school.

Bakugou stood up, and one of his friend's grabbed his arm, "Oi, Katsuki, he'll back off, you know that."

Bakugou jerked his hand away and walked over to the table, "Oi, dumb shit."

The guy berating Midoriya stood up straight, "Ooh, big brother Katsuki gonna save you this time?"

"K-Kacchan, don't--" Midoriya began, and cringed when the blonde grabbed the guy's shirt and slammed him on the ground.

"Stop fucking with him, it doesn't matter if he has a quirk or not! Knock it off!"

Some of Bakugou's friend group got up to help the guy up, pulling him out of the lunch room. After they left, it only took a moment for the room to continue it's usual noisiness.

One friend left at Bakugou's table got up and came over, beginning to collect Midoriya's books. The red head set it all on the table and shuffled some of the papers, "Sorry Midoriya..."

"I-it's fine..." He mumbled, putting the papers back into the folders. "Kacchan overreacts s-sometimes..."

Bakugou grabbed a book from the ground, muttering, "Overreact my ass." as he set it on the table.

"Your mom's gonna freak out if the principle calls again," the red head sighed, taking a seat across from Midoriya.

"We'll just tell her what happened," Bakugou said, taking a seat next to Midoriya. "Ain't any of your business anyways, weird hair."

"My name is still Kirishima..."

"Whatever."

Midoriya stared down at the table as the two talked together, and he got lost in his thoughts.

"Ooh, big brother Katsuki gonna save you this time?"

That line irked him a little... he could have just taken the harsh words, he usually did. He could have even fought back, but then everyone would know...

"Deku, you're muttering."

He jumped, lowering his head even more, "S-sorry!"

Bakugou reached over and pulled out Midoriya's journal, setting it down in front of him. Midoriya took a bit before relaxing and opening it, writing down the date on the first blank page.

Bakugou was eerily calm as he let Midoriya write, moving over to sit next to Kirishima and mutter every now and then. Soon enough, the lunch period was over. Midoriya quickly closed his journal, following Bakugou and Kirishima back to the classroom.

Before they got into the classroom, the teacher stopped Bakugou, and Midoriya knew he was being sent to the office. He hung his head as he went to his seat. He felt a little more relieved when Kirishima ruffled his hair as he walked by to his own desk.

About halfway into the lesson, Bakugou came back and went back to his desk. When the teachers were switching out for the last class, Midoriya felt his phone vibrate. He pulled it out to look at it from under the desk.

Kacchan: Got the dick suspended

Izuku: Really??

Kacchan: A teacher saw part of it.

Midoriya smiled a little to himself before putting his phone away just before the class started.

The last class ended quite fast, and Midoriya packed up his stuff into his bag. Bakugou came and stood by, waiting for him before walking out together. Kirishima tagged along, asking where they were going.

Bakugou was about to answer, but Midoriya did before him, "I-I have therapy on Thursdays..."

"Ahh, so that's why you two leave so quickly," Kirishima said.

When they exited the building, Kirishima waved goodbye before parting from them. When they were a few minutes away from the school, Bakugou spoke, "Y'think the dogs are gonna be there this week?"

"I don't know," Midoriya said, "last week was the first time it happened."

Ah yes, the previous therapy appointment. They walked in and were bombarded by emotional support puppies. The therapist apologized, saying that it was a kind of training day for them to get accustomed to people and helping them.

"Y'know, if you need one, you could convince mom," Bakugou said.

"Oh n-no, I don't--"

"We can take care of a damn dog, Deku."

Midoriya went quiet at that. Honestly, the therapist had mentioned it a few times, especially after a hard session. Despite loving the dogs he met, there was an underlying anxiety around them, and he didn't quite know why.

Thankfully, the office was quiet and lacked dogs when they entered. The receptionist looked up and smiled, "Good afternoon, Izuku, Katsuki."

"We're early, aren't we?" Midoriya said, looking over at the clock.

"Oh it's fine, Dr. Kuri will take you back as soon as her appointment is done."

The two of them sat down, and Bakugou was grumbling about the toys scattered around. Midoriya brought up the time the blonde got absolutely horrified by a jack-in-the-box, earning a light punch to the arm.

"Izuku, you can come back now."

Midoriya got up and followed the woman into the back office, leaving Bakugou to sit there on his phone. He always came but wasn't allowed in the actual session, due to privacy reasons.

"So how was your day?" Dr. Kuri asked when the door closed. "Anything exciting happen?"

Midoriya grimaced when he sat down, "... The usual, I guess."

Dr. Kuri scribbled something down, "By usual, you mean? I don't want to assume."

Midoriya then went on to explain the lunch situation.

"Katsuki seems to be taking on the brother role more," Dr. Kuri said.

"He didn't have to..." Midoriya muttered.

"Many of the stories you tell about him aren't very friendly," Dr. Kuri said as she wrote.

"He's not a friendly person."

The rest of the session was a bit deeper, and it got to the point where Midoriya didn't answer a question towards the end.

"Okay, that's enough for this week," Dr. Kuri said, closing her notebook. She leaned forward a little bit, "Just one last thing, as always..."

"I still don't remember," Midoriya said, looking at the ground.

"That's not a bad thing," she said, standing up. "It'll come back with time, Izuku."

She walked him out to the waiting room, and Bakugou stood up when the door opened.

"We'll see you next week," Dr. Kuri said, and the two of them walked out.

A tradition they started was to get something sweet after therapy. Bakugou was always wary when the boy came out; Mitsuki had warned him before they went together the first time that the therapy was a little intense, and Midoriya would sometimes freak out afterwards. He never knew what went on in there, or even the whole reason he had therapy, but he took his mother's words to heart and forced himself to be calm around him.

The two of them sat on a set of swings in the park, sitting in comfortable silence. They had just gotten some ice cream, and were having their weekly cool down to give Midoriya some time to relax before heading home.

Bakugou was tapping on his phone, probably texting Kirishima. Midoriya's swing was still as his feet were on the ground, and he was zoning out. He was pulled back to reality when Bakugou spoke, "You have tutoring tonight, right?"

"Y-yeah," Midoriya said, getting up and following Bakugou when he began walking away. They dropped off their stuff at home, only bringing the needed supplies before heading over for tutoring.

"Whose house is it this time? Yaoyorozu?" Bakugou questioned.

Midoriya nodded, and they began walking that way. Momo Yaoyorozu didn't attend their district, but Kirishima was a friend of hers, and said that she would help out if anyone needed it. She had some pretty high test scores, and was good with teaching struggling students, according to the red head.

From what he heard, Momo was a really sweet girl. Hopefully they'd get along.
