    Summary

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
    - George Santayana

In a world where creatures once fought then coexisted then seemed to completely disappear, Grian finds himself at the helm of a sinking ship, where he doesn't know who to trust nor what to do in this role that has been thrust upon him. Why him?! And on top of all that he is going crazy. He is going completely mental thanks to a soft voice whispering sweet nothings and words of encouragement into his ear.

Scar, a cunning an optimistic Vex salesman of human goods, has had enough of watching his kin be hurt by humans. Has had enough of listening to his brothers rumblings of the cruel and terrible creatures who have stolen from their people. From a creature meant to only aid he is taking his fate into his own hands and venturing into the human world to face the one who has caused his people such pain. The King.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Okay dude words cannot explain how much I enjoyed this but I'm certainly gonna try. The world building is actually mind-blowing, it truly feels like a whole other world in all aspects. To be able to achieve this in 120k words while still having a plot is mindboggling. And the plot bro, don't get me started on the plot. The way it so intricately ties into the emotions of people is amazing. Instead of this happens, and then this, and that happens to them. It's this happens and they aren't okay with it so they go to here and it makes this happen. Their actions have consequences like some huge domino effect that, when it finally all lays out, reveals itself to be some complex story. Scar is an amazingly built character, charming, funny, and a bit oblivious at times and cunning at others. Grian is dry, funny, and even alludes to his canonical character. And the author manages to give every character a unique voice. I found myself smiling at Skizz and Impulses antics and frowning when Gem went further into insanity. The plot twist was completely unexpected but in hindsight was very well laied out. Gem was painted as a sly and cunning character from the beginning that had obviously gone through a lot of guilt with pearl. Yet, the reader brushes aside these facts as the characters in the story don't see her as a threat and Gem is usually a very kind person. Also. The fact that someone is able to write so well is actually crazy. To be able to have the expansive vocabulary and grammar to paint a world, the people in it, how they feel, their grievances, and their knowledge will never not leave me speechless. Absolutely amazing job well done.

    Summary

“Scar please-” Grian cried gutturaly as the man in question picked up his blade, blood and grief staining its metal surface. Grian didn’t want this. Grian couldn’t accept this.

“Scar y-you promised-” Grian choked before cutting himself off as he finally caught Scar’s eyes, shadowed with something he could no longer recognize.

Scar didn’t listen to Grian’s pleas.

    He should’ve listened.
