Work Text:
Shouto rarely saw Enji anymore. After the divorce and Rei moving out with everyone else, the teen just took to avoiding their father as much as they could. They didn't cut all contact with him, but they didn't go out of their way to stay in contact either. That being said, after having successfully come out to Touya, their other siblings, their mom, and then their teacher and classmates, Shouto figured they should probably tell Enji, too. It wasn't as though Shouto expected it to go well; the exact opposite, really. She just thought that maybe Enji had a right to know, as her father.
When she called him during lunch, though, it went so much worse than she'd expected.
She couldn't focus for the rest of the school day, to the point that even Aizawa-sensei asked if she was alright. He ended up sending her home early, and since the League of Villains and Paranormal Liberation Front had since been disbanded, that meant actually going home instead of to the dorms. Some students stayed at the dorms because they were closer or more convenient, but Shouto had already missed out on so much time with her family that she chose to continue living with her mom. On the train ride home, she knew she was drawing attention from the steam escaping her ears and mouth. It only got worse the closer she got to home, and by the time she was pulling off her shoes and calling out, "Tadaima!" she could barely see through the smoke funneling around her head.
"Okaeri!" Fuyumi called back, peeking her head out from the kitchen. "You're home early- Sh-Shou? What's wrong?"
She just shook her head and raced up to her room, locking the door behind her.
Meanwhile, Natsuo had joined Fuyumi, who explained the situation. "They* looked so upset; they were smoking!"
"Did they say what happened?" the younger Todoroki asked, looking towards Shouto's room with visible concern.
"No, she didn't say anything; just locked herself in there." Fuyumi bit her lip. "Should we get Touya? They've been getting really close lately, and if this has to do with what I think it does, they'll be the best person to help..."
Natsuo looked at her. "You think it's an..." He looked around before whispering, "Endeavor thing?"
Fuyumi nodded, fiddling with her hair.
"I'll call Touya, then." He pulled out his phone and dialed the number. "Hey, dude! ... I'm alright, but uh, Shou's not doing too hot, and we were hoping you could help? ... We would, except we're pretty sure it's a you know thing that happened. ... Sweet, you're the best sibling. See ya in a bit." He turned to Fuyumi. "They're on their way."
"Tadaima!" Touya called out, practically tearing off their boots.
"Okaeri!" Fuyumi and Natsuo chorused, stepping into the hallway.
"They're in their room," Natsuo said.
Touya nodded and took off. They tried to open the door, but when they found it was locked began banging on the wood. "Open up, brat!"
There was some shuffling, some stomping, and then Shouto opened the door, tears in their eyes and a pissed-off scowl on their lips. "What?" they spat.
"You're coming with me," Touya said as explanation before dragging their youngest sibling to their new house's training room. It was pretty much just a fireproof and ice-proof room with some exercise equipment, and it held no painful memories, but Touya still felt kind of bad dragging Shouto there.
"What the hell are you doing?!" the teen demanded, struggling in Touya's grasp.
"You're actively smoking and locked up in a flammable room. If you keep trying to repress it, you're gonna end up burning the whole damn house down."
Shouto finally pulled their wrist free but continued to follow Touya. "Why didn't you just say that instead of dragging me out of my room?" they seethed.
Touya just shrugged uncaringly, noting how the gesture made the temperature rise. The pair entered the room, and Touya locked the door behind them. "Alright, kid, you're not leaving until you tell me what's up."
The temperature kicked up another few notches. "Why? I don't have to tell you anything!" Shouto protested, getting into a fighting stance.
Touya rolled their eyes. "Well then, if you wanna fight instead..." They matched Shouto's stance and let fire creep up their arms.
"I don't wanna fight," the youngest Todoroki said, hesitating.
"Tough shit," Touya replied, sending a blast of flame towards the other.
All hesitation left Shouto as they leapt forward and began firing ice after fire after ice towards their sibling.
Touya remained fully on the defensive, ducking under ice spikes and deflecting red fire with their own blue. They dashed about the space, hiding in Shouto's blind spot and searching for an opening but finding none.
Shouto, meanwhile, had no trouble finding his sibling even when they were in his blind spot. Still, Touya was an expert evader, and Shouto felt himself getting more and more pissed as his hits failed to land.
Then Touya began to taunt, "Is that the best you've got, hero? I thought you wanted to be number one!"
Shouto cried out in frustration as he shot another blast of fire, only for it to be deflected.
"Are you even trying to hit me?" Touya jeered. "Because you're kinda failing in that regard."
"Shut up!" Shouto yelled.
The ex-villain just grinned and continued to mock him. "If you want me to shut up, you're gonna have to make me!"
Finally fed up, Shouto unleashed enough ice to freeze the entire room, finally catching Touya. They just smirked, though, and melted through the ice easily.
"Is that the best you've-"
Their taunt was cut off as Shouto decked them in the jaw, and the two devolved into pure, Quirkless scrabbling. Shouto scratched and clawed at Touya who grappled and kneed her in return, neither caring about a "fair" fight as they desperately tried to get one over the other. She bit and elbowed them, and they punched and pulled her hair in return.
By the time the ice melted naturally, both Todorokis were panting on the floor, too tired to continue.
"Feel better?" Touya asked mildly.
"Yeah," Shouto admitted reluctantly.
"Cool. So what's up?"
She sighed. "I came out to Endeavor. He didn't take it well."
"Oh. Sorry, kid. Fuck him, though, right?"
Shouto let out a weak chuckle. "Right."
Touya pulled themself to their feet and held out a hand for their sister. "C'mon, brat. You don't need him or his approval. Your family who matters loves your annoying ass no matter what, and those stupid friends of yours would die for you."
"I know," she muttered. "It just hurts..."
Touya slung an arm around her shoulders. "Yeah, I know. But it helps to let everything out, right?"
"I don't think your therapist would approve of your methods," Shouto chuckled.
They let out a loud laugh. "Nah, probably not. It worked, though, and that's what matters!"
Shouto shook her head fondly. "Whatever."
