Why are you so chill!?

Summary:

4 times Fundy was a little too chill, and the one(?) time he explained why.

Aka: the author had this idea for a while now after reading fan fiction and finally decided to write it after a few weeks. The fiancés get their shit together because I want them to be happy, and there’s a sprinkle of bamf Fundy here. My favourite.

(The author edited this on July 27 2022, so hopefully it’s better.)

Work Text:

Foolish was a peaceful man. He didn't get into conflicts for the fun of it, instead either avoiding it or preferring to talk things out, but it seems he couldn't catch a break. There was the time with the Eggpire, Sam ignoring him for a week after said encounter, and then the conversation with Quackity.

Quackity, oh Quackity. Foolish has no idea what happened to that guy that caused him to act this way.

While Foolish doesn't directly hate him, he would rather avoid talking to him. Or looking at him.

Sam... he wasn't the same. After talking with Ponk, Foolish was tempted to throw them over to Puffy for some therapy, but decided against it. They could get over it on their own like adults… eventually.

Puffy and Sam were working together against the Eggpire, so Foolish decided to was best if he kept quiet about it. He still smiles and waves at Sam and talk like they used to whenever they meet, but knowing what Sam did to someone he loved kind of ruined it for him.

Who's to say Sam isn't willing to do the same to him if he did something he didn't like?

Purpled was alright. Puffy told him that Purpled and Technoblade were hired by Quackity to help with the Eggpire. Even after they chased them off, Purpled stayed around offering potions of healing and regeneration.

Fundy... he was a bit strange. Quackity claimed that his dreams could predict the future. He didn't seem like he believed it, laughing and joking about, but Foolish didn't think it was the most ridiculous thing he ever heard. In the past he's encountered people who went through the same thing, and even proved it by predicting future events.

Fundy was a polite person, if not a little hyper at times. Foolish would have never predicted someone like him would have prophetic dreams, but looks can be deceiving.

He wanted to ask him about his dreams, so he invited him to his temple to build. And by that he means talking with Fundy while he finished a build.

Fundy was running around the halls, laughing and talking with Foolish. It was a nice change having someone as energetic as him around.

Was this how everyone felt like with Tommy?

"So, Quackity mentioned something about your dreams predicting the future." He started.

"Mhm."

"So, it's true?"

"Yep." Fundy was standing near the scaffolding, looking at it. Was he even listening?

Once in a while he would glance back up at Foolish or somewhere else in the desert. Foolish paid no attention to it.

"Any dreams lately? Maybe one that predicts my death?" He joked instead.

"Mm, yeah actually." Fundy responded casually, as if it were nothing.

Meanwhile Foolish just stopped. "Wait- what?"

Something died underneath him, so he looked down to see Fundy holding a sword and standing over gunpowder. He looked up and gave him a toothy grin. "Just prevented it!"

"Oh, ok... thanks!"

Well, that confirms it.

Wait, did he even have a water bucket? Because he could have easily saved himself. Quickly he checked his inventory, and nope. There was nothing, meaning he could have possibly died.

"Can you get me a water bucket?"

"Sure, I was meant to do that anyway."

—————

It was another day in Las Nevadas, with Fundy and Purpled down in some cave mining to get resources.

Usually these these two didn't spend much time together, but Fundy had asked one day when Quackity was away (probably fighting with Wilbur) if Purpled wanted to go mining. Purpled eyed him skeptically but agreed. He hesitated while doing so, and even now as they mined side by side he glanced at him once in a while wit caution. Fundy pretended not to notice how tensed he seemed.

"So, how much did Quackity pay you to join?" Purpled stopped and looked at Fundy. Fundy looked back into those cold, accusing eyes.

He must have still been jumpy.

"What do you mean?" He asked.

"You never joined a side until now, and you're a mercenary. Plus, I couldn't find your UFO." Fundy answered.

Purpled looked into those amber eyes, almost like he was searching for something. This was getting a little awkward, but still Fundy didn't bother saying it.

Finally Purpled looked away and said. "He blew up my UFO after paying me for my services."

He continued mining, but Fundy did not. Curious, he looked to the fox hybrid and saw him staring at the pick axe in his hand.

"He did... he did what?"

"Yeah, blew up my UFO and said that I would be forgotten unless I joined him."

Fundy stayed still for a moment, before saying something that Purpled didn't expect. "Did... I not tell you?"

This time Purpled froze, and turned around to face him, bewildered. Yeah, maybe Fundy shouldn’t have said that. “You knew? And you still joined him?"

"Well, my dreams can sometimes predict the future, but the thing is, I don't know whether or not I'm awake anymore. I thought I told you, but then I guess I woke up. Would you have really believed me though?"

Purpled looked back at the stone and sighed. "I guess not. How did you join him anyway?"

"He basically told me I was worth nothing unless I joined him." Fundy said casually, starting to mine again. "He sugar coated it by a lot though."

Purpled stared at Fundy as he worked, before joining him.

Wow. Was he ok?

"Ever heard of the traumatized minor group? I think you would fit right in." Fundy glanced at him and smirked, a hint mischief dancing in his eyes.

Alright, that's it-

—————

"Fundy?" Sam looked at Fundy who was rubbing his arm, an expressionless Purpled standing beside him.

Or at least, he seemed expressionless. Sam could have swore he saw the tiniest of smirks on Purpled's face.

"Don't worry about it." Fundy said, smiling sheepishly.

"Alright... well, I'll be going back to the prison now-"

"No." Sam looked at Fundy, before saying. "I have to, it's my job."

"Fine, but I'm coming with."

"No."

Purpled watched the two go back and forth, wondering what was happening. He hated not knowing.

"Just let him go, I'll come with just in case something happens." He said.

"The protocols-"

Fundy rolled his eyes and said, "Fuck the protocols, they're the reason Tommy's dead, aren't they?" Sam tensed.

Ah, a fresh wound. Maybe Fundy shouldn't have said that.

It was silent for a few seconds, then Sam finally sighed. "Fine."

Fundy grinned and began walking towards the prison. "Let's go visit the green-teletubby lookin' ass!"

"The what now?" If Purpled wasn't so dead inside, he would have laughed.

When they got there, Fundy offered to feed both Dream and Technoblade, who Fundy forgot about. He didn't make eye contact with either of them, instead turning to look at Sam with a confused expression.

"Since when was Technoblade in prison?" He asked.

"He's been in there for a few hours." Sam replied nonchalantly.

"Oh." He gave them the raw potatoes and turned around to the platform.

Usually Sam would just use a machine to feed Dream, but conveniently enough, the machine broke. Now they had to have their food handed to them manually.

Now that Fundy have them their food, he had to jump back onto the platform. Before he did so, he turned to look at the clock on the wall, staying still and seemingly in a daze. He turned around and lifted a foot up, before the machine began moving.

Sam tensed. "Fundy-"

The platform stopped, and the lava began pouring down, blocking them from view. The last thing Fundy saw was Purpled staring wide eyed at him, and Sam's tense figure. Must've been having flashbacks.

Fundy looked at the other two, slightly tense before sitting down. "So, how have you two been."

"Pretty good." "Terrible." Technoblade and Dream responded at the same time, Dream holding his head and letting out a long groan. From the sound of it, he was in a lot of pain.

Mentally, that is.

Fundy quirked a brow. "What's up with you?"

"He's mad that I fell for the trap." Technoblade said, looking at the suffering man.

"Of course I am! You were my only way out, Technoblade! Now, I'm stuck in here with you, and him." He pointed to Fundy, not even looking at him.

Fundy put a hand to his chest and tilted his head. "Wow, rude much?"

Dream only turned to glare at him, somehow looking exasperated.

"Yeah, I would get tired of sitting around in a hot room too." Fundy agreed, taking off his jacket as he did so. "Having nothing but hallucinations to talk to."

Dream stiffened, before asking. "How did you know?"

Fundy shrugged. "Some people start going mad and hallucinate if they're isolated for too long." He looked straight into Dream's eyes. "This punishment is inhuman, Dream. But I think as someone who declares themselves as a god, you must have no problem with it."

It was silent for a few seconds, Dream and Fundy staring at each other while the voices argued in Techno's head.

Some of them hated the fox hybrid's words, and some laughed and agreed. Some were wondering when Dream even said that. Technoblade himself didn't care much, but thought it was funny.

Completely off topic he said; "Hey, there's netherite floors right there."

10/10 socializing skills right there.

Fundy snapped out of the staring contest and asked. "Where?"

He then looked beside him at the netherite, taking a moment to look before running a hand over them. He tried scratching them, probably to see if it was real or not. "Damn, he's really flexing on us."

Technoblade hummed in agreement while Dream silently seethed.

Great, now he was stuck with two idiots. At least one would be gone by the end of the week, unless...

"Hey, Fundy?" The fox hybrid hummed, one of his ears flicking in his direction.

"Do you know how Tommy died?" Fundy froze, hearing the smirk as Dream spoke.

Of course he knew how the child died, everyone did. He slowly glanced up at Dream, who had that manic glee in his eyes.

"Yeah, no, I think I'll be going now." He announced, standing up and practically throwing himself into the lava before Dream, who was halfway from leaping at him, could reach him.

Technoblade and Dream stared at where the fox hybrid once stood silently. Even the voices were quiet before Technoblade spoke in his usual monotone voice.

"Bruuh, he would rather kill himself then let you do it."

Somewhere else, Fundy was being scolded by Sam while Purpled watched with a monotonous expression. He punched him once, so I guess he did care.

—————

Fundy sighed, running to the place Quackity told him about.

When Quackity told him that Sapnap wanted to talk to him, Fundy told him to agree immediately. Of course, it took a lot of arguing, and maybe a few minor threats to get him to agree, but he did after half an hour. Sapnap was probably worried about Quackity not responding for that half hour, but oh well.

Finally, he found Quackity, and the two awaited for his fiancés. Ex fiancés, according to Quackity. He never really like talking about it, which was understandable. Fundy never liked to talk about Wilbur.

Hm, maybe he should talk to that guy someday.

Finally the other two arrived, Sapnap looking sad but hopeful the moment he saw Quackity, and Karl looking hesitant. Quackity's balled fists when he saw them.

Fundy ignored it and pulled out a pocket watch, looking around.

"Sapnap-" Quackity greeted, but was interrupted when Fundy pulled him down and raised his shield.

"Fundy!" He ignored the shout and stabbed a zombie that approached silently.

He then backed off and raised his shield to block an incoming arrow that was aimed at Quackity. Then he looked over his shoulder, meeting Quackity's eye. "What?"

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?"

"SAVING YOUR SORRY ASS," He paused to knock a skeleton down the hill. "THAT'S WHAT!"

Sapnap, who had been watching this entire encounter, finally spoke up. "Well, if Fundy didn't do anything, you probably would be dead, Q."

Quackity turned to glare at him. "Don't call me that."

Fundy only looked at them with a bored and slightly exasperated expression. He put down the shield and sheathed the blade.

Karl looked at Quackity and then Fundy. He didn't like either of them, but he should probably give them a chance, seeing as Sapnap wanted to for whatever reason.

"I thought I told you that you could come here, not him" Quackity glared at Karl as he said it, but there was a hint of sadness which didn't go unnoticed.

Sapnap gave a sad, apologetic look, while Karl only looked a little confused and a bit offended. Fundy looked tired, feeling a lot more annoyed than he looked.

"I refuse to believe Karl is completely unreasonable, so just hear him out." He suggested, trying to be as gentle as his tired mind would allow.

Quackity looked at him with disbelief and a little betrayal, which Fundy chose to ignore.

"You killed me, so I'm sorry that I don't want to be near you." Karl said, glaring at Quackity.

"It was for a sacrifice!" Quackity shouted, leaving Fundy confused about the new information.

Sapnap felt confused too, but was more worried about his partners arguing again. He didn't want it to end up like last time he got them together.

"Guys, please-"

"Shut up, Sapnap!"

"Don't talk to him like that!"

"CAN YOU ALL JUST SHUT UP!?" Fundy shouted.

All three of them stopped immediately and turned to look at him, surprised at the volume. They saw his eyes glinting dangerously in the moonlight, like a warning. Deciding to be reasonable, they kept their mouths shut and listened to whatever he had to say.

"Ok, I may have an idea on how this happened." He started in a more calm tone. "Quackity, you already know about my dreams, and I may have seen a glimpse of whatever the fuck happened to Karl."

"Wait, what?" Karl said, looking Fundy with wary eyes.

"Basically," Fundy ignored him. "he has memory problems. Because Sapnap is most likely always there for him, he remembers and probably writes down whatever goes on between them, but because you haven't been there for months, Quackity, he may have forgotten about you."

The shadow over Quackity's face grew darker and darker as Fundy spoke, and he spoke in an angry tone. "He forgot about me, his damn fiancé."

Fundy rolled his eyes and spoke in a 'I'm absolutely done with your bullshit' voice. "You can't control your memories, dumbass. Otherwise I would have forgotten about my problems a long time ago."

Quackity remained silent and looked down.

"Anyway- in Quackity's eyes, you both abandoned him." Sapnap opened his mouth to protest, but Fundy continued. "He apparently never received an invitation, and only discovered Kinoko Kingdom after talking with George, who is almost never around anymore."

When he finished, Sapnap looked to Karl, who looked surprised and appeared to be in disbelief at the news. Sapnap asked. "I thought you said you invited him..?"

"I... don't know." Karl admitted.

"Memory problems." Fundy nodded. "Now if you don't mind, I would really appreciate it if you fixed him."

He motioned towards Quackity, who furrowed his brows and looked at him weirdly. "Fix me?"

"Did I stutter?" Fundy looked at him, unimpressed. "You've done some fucked up things, and I think having two people you love nearby to help would be fantastic."

"What? I built Las Nevadas-"

"You manipulated people to join, Quackity. Don't think I didn't notice how Purpled's UFO mysteriously went missing before he joined, and the way he looked at you like you killed his entire family. Plus he never really liked joining sides."

That last part reminded him of an old friend.

It was silent when Fundy finished, and the three stared at Quackity with either realization dawning on them, or just straight up done with life. You can guess who looked like what.

"You did what?"

"It was-" Try as hard as he might, Quackity couldn't find a reason that didn't seem completely evil.

"Exactly." Fundy nodded, then turned to Sapnap and Karl. He then pointed to Quackity. "Fix him. Please."

—————

"Shit, shit..." Purpled's muscles almost burned, but he carried on. Fundy was loosing consciousness from the blood loss, but his eyes snapped open every time Purpled spoke to him.

"Keep talking, I need to know if you're still alive."

"What if... I sleep talk?" Fundy cleared his throat and almost tripped before Purpled caught him.

"You better not, you better fucking not." He muttered.

"I think you would know if,” he took a breath. “I lost conscious the moment I fall."

"Shut up and keep talking."

Wow, that made perfect sense. If Fundy could, he would look at purpled with deadpan expression. But he's kind of bleeding out right now after fighting so many mobs.

All Purpled wanted was to find a new cave to potentially set up as his secret base, yet he couldn't seem to catch a break. Fundy offered to come, which was basically him saying he was going to follow him in case something happened. Aware of his ability, Purpled let him.

He's stuck between feeling grateful, and feeling pissed that Fundy would make such a reckless move to prevent him from sustaining any injuries. The idiot ended up fighting a hoard of monsters after shoving Purpled down a three block hole and covering the top with obsidian.

Purpled saw the sand of Las Nevadas and a familiar totem giant in the distance. He called out to them. "Foolish! Foolish!"

After calling a few more times, the totem turned and looked at them, before his eyes widened. He rushed over to them and gently picked them up, speed walking back while asking questions.

"What happened?"

"He pushed me down a hole and covered it while he fought monsters. A creeper blew up and a skeleton shot him with an enchanted bow." Purpled explained, looking at Fundy's pale face.

Unfortunately, neither of them thought to bring any bandages. Well, Purpled thought he had some, but apparently not.

Foolish silently cursed and went some hospital he was conveniently making. Once he got to the front he placed the two down carefully, minding Fundy's injuries before shrinking down himself.

"Fundy? You still with us?" Fundy grumbled something which suspiciously sounded like 'tired.'

"Don't close you're eyes, and don't go to the light."

"What light? Oh, there it is-"

"NO, FUNDY-"

It was a mess, but thankfully they managed to use splash potions to heal him. Foolish apparently had some type of ability for people to remain alive even in the most dire of situations, so he used it for Fundy.

It's funny, considering long ago Foolish had used it to make his enemies suffer more. Wisely, Purpled didn't ask for an explanation.

It was dawn, and Quackity had found out the news and walked straight into the newly built hospital with his fiancés following close behind. Apparently things worked out between them, so Quackity was slowly getting better.

Sam also found out, so he was there when Fundy finally awoke.

He looked at everyone in the room, before sighing and asking what happened. He asked it tiredly as if he repeated it several times before, which no one seemed to notice.

"Well, you pushed me into a hole that was three blocks deep, covered me, and then proceeded to fight those monsters on your own." Purpled explained, staring at Fundy with a little annoyance.

It was mostly out of worry though, if what his other self said was correct, but Fundy didn't say it out loud.

"Then a creeper exploded and a skeleton shot you in the shoulder."

"Well, I kind of knew that was going to happen-"

"What do you mean you knew it was going to happen?" Quackity asked, looking like he would loose his mind. Karl placed a hand on his shoulder in an attempt to calm him down.

"I mean, I knew it was going to happen. Dreams, remember? Oh, and nightmares, I guess."

Some perked up at that. Fundy had never really referred to them as nightmares, usually just dreams. Nightmares were terrifying, possibly hinting that Fundy sees the future in a more frightening way.

"Did the nightmares really get this bad?" Foolish asked, looking at the fox hybrid with concern.

Fundy merely shrugged and replied. "This is like, the second time I explained it to you guys. They get so... intense, and it feels real. It happens a lot more now, and I can barely tell what's real anymore. I kind of just, accepted it. There's no point in fighting against it."

The others just stared at him, not saying anything.

This explained his careless behaviour, why he didn't fear death as much as he should. It’s because he dreamed of dying and waking up so many times that he doesn’t know what’s real anymore, maybe even so much so that he’s used to it.

Either way, they didn't know how to respond.

Notes:

2022 in July edit: I just tried a thing called “showing and not telling” so hopefully it’s a bit better.

Alright, so, I read fanfic a while back where Fundy had so many dreams that he didn’t know whether or not they were fake. He keeps waking up, and I assume he went mad because of it. This is what I imagined, and I finally wrote it down after a few hours of thinking. I would give you a link, but it’s been weeks, and I don’t remember what it was called.

Things I wanted to say:

- Foolish can grow into his canon height, but if he did so, he would have accidentally crushed Fundy. Fundy had seen Foolish die the same way when he wasn’t paying attention to his surroundings, which was when the creeper exploded and destroyed the scaffolding’s. The reason he keeps looking around is because he’s looking for that same creeper to kill so Foolish doesn’t die. Oh, and he kind of forgot to remind Foolish to take a water bucket.

- Fundy saw Purpled’s UFO explode twice and texted Purpled after those, and when he actually woke up, he decided that Purpled probably wouldn’t listen to him because they’ve basically never interacted much. Plus, Fundy didn’t want to go around telling everyone about his dreams.

- He had dreams of Sam getting stuck inside Pandora’s Vault, so he insisted on going to prevent that from happening. He also pretended not to know about Techno being inside the prison. Thanks to the clock on the wall, he was able to avoid getting melted. Originally, he wasn’t meant to die, but if he must, then it’s certainly not going to be by the green teletubby’s hands.

- He dreamed about Karl’s time travel, and saw him writing things down while panicking. He was muttering ‘don’t forget’ over and over, so Fundy put the pieces together and figured it out. Does he know it’s time travel? Well, no I don’t think so.

- He dreamed about Purpled dying, and decided “nope, you’re not about to lose a life on my watch.” And then proceeds to study the cave layout, plan, and just tag along. The three block hole he pushed him into was surrounded by obsidian, and even then Fundy chose to cover the top.

- The question mark in the summary after 1 kind of hints that it isn’t Fundy’s first time explaining it.

Headcanon: Because of the amount of times he experienced and witnessed death, it doesn’t faze him anymore. Sometimes it does hurt, and sometimes he just feels empty. Most of the time he shrugs it off, unbothered and assuming he’ll wake up soon.

New headcanon for this AU: Fundy carries a pocket watch with him because his dreams actually show him the time, so he has the ability to change things if he times it right.

Mans could really just calculate the amount of time taking a jog and then returning home to his warm food just to make sure it’s perfect ‘cause he’s extra like that.
