Chapter Text
This is one of the few missions that Maddie and Tom are both assigned to. It’s a get-in-destroy-get-out kind of mission at one of those shady, illegal and usually unethical scientific research facilities.
The mission had started out as the same as any other mission of this type until Maddie came across something — rather someone — in one of the back rooms.
“Tom,” the veterinarian hissed at her partner who was a few paces down the corridor.
There were two…creatures hunched against the far wall, one an electric blue and one a striking orange. The orange one had two fox-like tails wrapped around itself while the blue one resembled a hedgehog somewhat.
The two were clutching at each other — hugging — while sets of blue and green eyes followed the humans’ every move.
Both are coated in dirt and grime while the room reeked of urine. These creatures aren’t like anything that either agent knows to exist on this planet; that leaves only two options: they are aliens or that ‘Doctor Robotnik’ created them. Either option is equally likely at this point.
Now that the two agents have found those creatures, what do they do with them?
The sound of footsteps met their ears, the squad of troops who were sent in to assist in the clean up were on their way in.
“Please go hold them up,” Maddie told Tom. “I can handle it here,”
Her partner hesitated for a moment before leaving the room to do as she suggested.
With uninterruption now somewhat-guaranteed, Maddie turned her attention back to the two creatures. Slowly and carefully she approached them.
The fox-like one flinched rather violently as she drew closer and in response, the hedgehog-like one growled at her.
Slowly she put her arms up, palms facing them in the universal gesture that she meant them no harm.
The blue one stopped growling abruptly and they were both watching her like a hawk.
“Hi there, I’m Ag — Maddie,” she greeted. Maddie made sure to smile, something that she was certain that the crazy doctor — Robotnik — never would have done.
“That can’t be comfortable down there. Would you like to stand up?” she asked.
Almost instantaneously the two stood, still keeping close to each other. Both still looked frightened which was to be expected. Even though they didn’t trust her they still did what she said, even if it was phrased as a question.
The blue one was taller and even then it only just came to Maddie’s waist.
When she and Tom got them out of here, then what? What was next?
