Work Text:

Ziva and Tony have had a mixup with their hotel room in Paris. Currently, they’re arguing about who sleeps where.

”I’ll take the couch. You take the bed.” Ziva says, her voice rising in volume. She couldn’t help it. Tony was being stubborn. He was trying to be a gentleman and let her have the bed. She tried not to think too hard about that, not wanting to fall down that train of thought yet again.

Tony sighed. “You know, it’s cold in here, Ziva.” His tone suggested exactly what he didn’t say.

”I’m not getting in bed with you, Tony.” Ziva’s voice was firm and final. She flopped on the couch, pulling her shoes off.

Tony looked around for a blanket and draped one over her. Thankfully, she didn’t push it off. He took the small victory.

A while later, Ziva is still awake. She’s restless, tossing and turning on the couch. She suppresses the urge to crawl into bed with Tony. She starts a mental battle with herself. No, cuddling with your work partner is not appealing, Ziva. What if he says something tomorrow? Will she regret it?

Her mind comes up with endless possibilities. She knows Tony wouldn’t be opposed to the idea of her sleeping next to him. But Ziva also doesn’t want to make things awkward if he is. She sighs eventually and gets up.

For about three minutes, Ziva stands beside the bed. Watching Tony. She knows he is not asleep. He is too still and his breathing is too even. Slowly, Ziva lifts the edge of the covers. The bed is big enough for both of them to lay together. She suddenly doesn’t care what Tony will think in the morning because she can feel the warmth his body radiates just from the edge of the bed.

Tony smiles stupidly in the dark as he felt the covers lifted up next to him. A body, Ziva, slid into bed next to him. They’d argued over their sleeping arrangements when he suggested she sleep with him. It was just past winter in Paris, going into spring. But it was still cold.

Ziva, had of course, shut that idea down early on. He figured she must’ve gotten cold on the couch. Just as Tony was about to open his mouth, to make a smart comment, she spoke.

“Not a word.” She said, and although her tone wasn’t threatening, Tony got the message.

An awkward silence fell between the two. Tony tried to look over as Ziva shuffles around next to him. Probably turning over. He half turned and saw that she was staring at him.

“Get cold over there?” He has that stupid smile on his face again. Ziva wants to slap him. Instead, she sighs heavily and bites her tongue to keep herself from saying anything.

Words fall past her lips, despite her best efforts to keep them in. “Maybe I did.” Ziva draws her words out. She gives Tony a look to keep him from twisting it into something else.

Tony just hums in the way that he does. “You know, I don’t bite.” He says, putting a suggestion out there.

Ziva bites the inside of her cheek. Tony’s offer of comfort and warmth seems almost too good to pass up. She has another mental debate with herself. Although the answer is basically already decided in her mind.

Tony doesn’t take the offer back. He lets it linger in the silence between them.

The tension in the room grows heavy again. Ziva huffs, throwing her leg over Tony and pulling herself close to him. He grins, watching as Ziva gets herself settled into his side.

He lets his arms fall around her, his eyes closing.

“Comfy?” Tony asks her, still smiling.

Ziva feels her face flush with embarrassment, though it goes unseen in the dark. “Yes.” She admits and Tony pulls the covers over both of them.

It’s the first night in a long time where they both sleep peacefully.
