Chapter Text
Jason has a dog named Dog and he's in a dilemma at the moment because he needs to take the dog out, preferably at a dog park, but the park he's been using until now is frequented by some very flirtatious divorced older women and for some reason they have their eyes on him, he can't escape them, he's not against dating older women he's had his fair share of women on the older side, but these women are the overbearing type and they keep touching him like they are blind and he's a book in braille, also they never ask for permission to touch.
On top of that, his Dog received the same treatment from a male dog from the park, she got humped and she didn't like that and the ending was not pretty she basically mauled that dog.
After all that he would prefer to avoid the people from that park, even though it is the closest to the place he lives right now.
Now he's in search of a new park, and he got the bright idea that he should try one of the central parks, the ones with green fresh cut grass and without dog poop everywhere.
The downside is that he has to drive a car to get there, dogs aren't exactly made to ride on the back of his motorcycle.
When he gets to the fancier park he thinks he hit the jackpot. Everything is green and clean, and his dog is running around happily, until he notices a familiar head, a redhead more specifically, when she faces him he recognizes her, Barbara Gordon.
He kind of wants to avoid her, they haven't met just the two of them since they kissed and she called it a mistake, he would prefer to avoid the awkwardness, but they already made eye contact, so it would be even more weird to pretend he didn't see her and walk away.
Also, his dog got the bright idea to pull him towards her, now the option to flee is out the window.
'Hey, Babs, long time no see,' he tries to sound easygoing.
'Jason!? W-what are you doing here?’ she sounded panicked.
'I'm here with my dog,' he points at Dog.
'Oh...'
'What about you, didn't know you have a dog,' he tries to make conversation and to keep it light, luckily he can talk about dogs.
'I don't have one, I'm here with Titus.'
'Ah, where is he? Maybe my dog can play with him.'
'He's running around wherever he wants. I don't think he's coming back anytime soon.'
Damn, she's acting weird, he didn't think his crush on her would make their relationship so awkward, she's definitely trying to chase him away.
'Since when are you babysitting Damian's dog?'
'I'm not, I just--' she gets interrupted.
'Mommy, mommy, Titus caught a frisbee,' says a little girl running from behind him towards Barbara and starts hugging her leg. Barbara looked stunned, she didn't say anything, she did not move, she didn't even blink.
'Mommy who is this?' the little girl asks while pulling at Barbara's hand.
'This is... he is…' Barbara tries to form a sentence.
'Master Jason!' Alfred appeared out of nowhere, and Jason wondered what the hell was going on, first a little girl referred to Babs as 'mommy', when did Barbara have the time to have a kid and she didn't even bother to tell him, he had to find out by chance and now Alfred is here too.
'Mister, who are you?' the little girl asks him directly with no sign of shyness.
He kneels at her eye level 'My name is Jason, I'm a friend of your... mom,' he feels weird saying that, and he gives a quick look to Barbara.
'My name is Scarlett, nice to meet you.'
'Nice to meet you too, Scarlett.' Then she put her little palm on his face 'You look like Papa,' Alfred gasped loudly then covered his mouth looking very emotional.
Jason wonders again why is everybody acting so weird, the only one acting normal is the little girl, also did she say he looks like her dad, he assumes her dad is Dick and he's been told before they look similar, nothing new. Speaking of Dick she looks exactly like him, blue eyes, wavy dark hair, she has nothing from Barbara.
'What is your dog's name?'
"Uh, she doesn’t have a good name, I just call her dog or girl."
'You can't name your dog Dog, that's silly.'
'I know, I'm not good with names.'
'I can help you find a name for her.'
'I appreciate it,' what is he doing making friends with Barbara's kid he just met.
'If I may, Master Jason, would you like to have dinner at the Manor tonight?'
'I don't think Bruce would like that, Alfred.'
'You're wrong about that.'
'I also have a dog,' Jason pointed at Dog.
"You can bring the dog with you, please master Jason for my sake."
Jason says okay before he can think, he just can't say no to Alfred, he doesn't want to make Alfred more sad than he already did ever since he came back from the dead.
Jason looks at Babara who's been suspiciously silent and he's surprised to see her shooting daggers with her eyes at Alfred. He makes his way to his car and then follows Alfred to the Manor.
'What if he finds out?' says a worried Barbara after she gets in the car.
'To be honest he should find out. I believe it's time.'
'That's not your decision to make, Alfred.’
'I understand that you and Master Bruce have the final say in the matter but if you ask me Jason deserves to know.'
