Chapter Text
Running away from the city that has seen you grow up in order to love in peace, that was what Toji and Megumi often had to do in order to spend quality time together as an ordinary and normal couple, even though they were neither ordinary nor normal. They were strolling hand in hand along the shore of a beach in another city, not far from the hotel where they would be staying for the weekend.
"You are so beautiful..." Toji said to his daughter after stopping their walk to kiss her, gazing at her face and placing his dominant hand on her cheek, caressing it with his thumb. That compliment made her blush and smile, but her smile wouldn't last long because of the next thing her father said, "You're like a carbon copy of your mother," he added, fascinated by their resemblance, which made her smile fade quickly, almost comically.
She grabbed his wrist in disgust and disappointment, causing him to let go of her cheek and walk away from him, hugging herself.
"What's wrong?" he asked, confused and even a little annoyed.
It's not like Megumi could simply answer "Nothing" because it was obvious that something was wrong. She couldn't complain about what he had said either because she had never before expressed how jealous she felt when she remembered her mother, but this was the time to do it once and for all.
Whenever she looked at her father, she looked at her first and only love, her creator and her God. On the other hand, when she looked in the mirror, she saw the one he loved before her and remembered that she was the fruit of the love he felt for her. Doubts began to occupy her mind, did he love her unconditionally or because she looked like her?
"I don't want you to mention her," she said, still turning her back to him and trying not to shed the tears that were beginning to form in her eyes, but her tone of voice betrayed the desire she had to cry, "never again, please."
Toji went after her, grabbing her arms to turn her around, so that she would look at him. She tried to avert her gaze, staring at the ocean behind him, wanting to avoid connecting her teary eyes with his.
"Are you jealous?" he asked confused and surprised.
"A lot," she answered bursting into tears, and he bent down to hug her, comforting her with his embrace until she calmed down, until she was tired of crying in his muscular arms. "Who do you see when you look at me? Her or me?" she asked anxiously when they parted.
"You," he answered. "You are you and she was her, but Megumi, darling, you're a lot like her and that's a fact. It's beyond our control and you have to accept that, whether you like it or not," he added, trying to be rational.
Megumi wasn't entirely satisfied with that answer: she didn't want reason and she couldn't be rational at that moment, she wanted love and passion, she wanted comfort and romance.
"And what do you see when you look at me?" She asked again, hoping for a better answer. "What am I to you?"
"You are everything to me," he said putting both hands on her cheeks wet with tears from minutes before, emphasizing the "Everything" and looking straight into her eyes. "When I look at you I see everything good in the world and I feel like the happiest, luckiest man alive. I love you."
"I love you too," she whispered at last content with his answer, and Toji leaned in again to kiss her; a slow kiss that quickly turned passionate. "Let's go back to the hotel, keep telling me there how much you love me."
"Don't you want to watch the sunset anymore?" he asked holding back his laughter, smiling at how needy she looked.
"We can watch it from the bed, from the balcony," Toji laughed snorting through his nose, and slapped her on the buttocks.
"Keep walking," he grabbed her hand again, "the bed isn't going anywhere, the sun is."
"Toji...!" she complained, blushing.
"Remember when you were a little girl and you were so stressed out when you found out that the sun was going to explode in billions of years?" he asked trying to make her laugh and distracting her by changing the subject of conversation.
