The pregnancy was sudden, they weren't bonded and they hadn’t told their families that they were together. In Scar’s case they didn’t even realize he was dating someone. Because of this they had a shotgun wedding so they could be a stable family. But they didn’t bond. And this point was starting to get on Grian’s nerve at the end of his pregnancy but he ultimately had no time to think about it once his little girls were born, but after about a year issues started to arise.
“Scar, I don't want to hide our children forever! I want my family to know them and I want to raise our children with my family close by and that is in Life”
Scar sighed, they had been back and forth on this point many times in the last few months and Scar was getting tired of it “Grian! I don’t want to uproot my entire life to move to another country when our lives are already established here.”
“Is that why you won’t bond with me?”
the accusation stunned Scar “we never talked about it so I assumed you didn’t want to be bonded”
When Grian heard Scar’s assumptions he was mad “Is that what you really think? You know I love you so why wouldn’t I want that?”
this clearly agitated Scar “First the family issue and now this? Seriously?”
this wasn’t what Grian wanted to hear “you think my family is an issue? Your family is the issue. They don’t even know you were dating someone and got married to someone and had kids with someone. At the very least my family knows we are together.” Grian stopped to take a breath “Is that why you haven't bonded with me yet? Are you ashamed of me?”
Scar didn’t speak
“If that's the case then I see no reason for me to stay. I’m leaving”
Scar seemed shocked “Wait, Grian no don’t do this!”
at this point Grian was pissed and he wanted to show it “DON’T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!” he picked up their wedding photo and threw a shoe at Scar’s face while quickly shoving half of the photo into his pocket and picked up the stuff he had packed and carried it into their girls bedroom
When Scar saw Grian take his stuff into the girls bedroom his heart sank to his stomach “Grian, What are you doing?”
“Taking the girls with me. I don’t want any reason to get near you ever again.”
“No! NO! Don’t take them or at the very least don’t take them both, if you're going to leave at least let me have one of the girls” he pleaded.
Grian stopped for a moment to think about it.
“Fine”
Scar saw that he had finished packing a bag for one of the girls and how he went to pick up Poppy who was sleeping. Grian picked up both of the bags and left the room. On his way out he said “I hope to never see you again and I will be sending you divorce papers in the mail”
Grian felt bittersweet. He was finally going home but at the cost of losing the person he loved and one of his daughters. Feeling sad he squeezed Poppy.
“Poppy it's time to get up” Poppy looked up tiredly “Mama? Where is Papa and Lilac?”. Grian thought for a moment.
“Gone”
Poppy started to have tears in her eyes,
“Gone forever?”
“Yes” Poppy started to sob and Grian soothed her
“It's ok, it's ok, you're gonna get to meet your Aunts and Uncles very soon”
This made Poppy perk up “who?”
Grian laughed “you’ll get to meet your aunt Pearl and your Uncle Jimmy and his partner Uncle Scott and your godparents Uncle Joel and Aunt Lizzie”
“yay” Poppy mumbled tiredly before falling back asleep. Smiling he pulled out his phone to text his sister
Grian
Hey Pearl…
Pearl
Grian! It's been so long! How have you been!
Wait it's been so long since you reached out
What have you been doing for the past year that makes it so you rarely text your family??
Grian
I’ll tell you and everyone else tomorrow. Can you pick me up at the airport then?
Pearl
TOMORROW?!
Ok I will, Can’t wait to see you!
Grian
Can’t wait to see you either
I’ll text you when I land
Grian put his phone away, and sighed, he wondered how showing up with a kid out of nowhere was going to be handled. He knew that everyone would love Poppy but he wasn't ready for the questions that he knew they would ask.
After Grian left Scar started crying “What have I done?” he whispered, “No, No I can't focus on that right now… I have to focus on Lilac” Scar knew what he had to do “its for the best”. He took a breath and picked up his phone and sent a text
Scar
I’m coming home. I’ll talk about what has happened in the last year when I get back.
Bdubs
Scar! It's great that you are coming home but this is so sudden… are you ok?
Scar
I don’t want to talk about it over the phone. See you soon
Putting away his phone he looked down to see a half packed bag for Lilac and he decided to finish packing it. He then went and packed a suitcase for himself.
He looked around, seeing the sentimental objects he and Grian had shared and went to grab a box to shove them into. But as he went to grab the boxes he saw the remnants of the torn up half of the image on the floor, the half with Grian in it and stuck it in his bag.
Grabbing the box he went out to his car and stuck it in the trunk, walking back inside he went up to his and Grian’s room to grab his luggage and into his daughters room to grab Lilac’s luggage and took the down to his car and stuck them in the back seat, looking at the back seat caused Scar to tear up. The knowledge that his girls wouldn’t be together broke his heart. He looked at the spare seat and took it out of the car and placed it in the back of the garage. Wiping his tears he went to get Lilac so they could get going
“Lilac, it's time to wake up…” she slowly woke up “Papa?” “We’re gonna head out now just us”
“What about Mama and Poppy?
“They aren’t coming with us.”
“Why?”
“Because they left,” he said while carrying Lilac to the car. After he buckled her in and got into the driver's seat
“How exactly am I going to explain this to Mom and Dad? Bdubs will be so confused what do I do” he pondered for a second
“I’ll think about it on the drive.”
