Work Text:
The rain had never been something that Alex was all too fond of, especially on nights like this one where he was forced to walk home in it, but with that being said, it appeared as though Slade had a much different perspective on things, as it appeared as though he was having the time of his life practically dancing in the rain as they made their way back to their apartment. Normally on days like this, they'd usually drive, but that simply wasn't an option with how bad traffic was due to the weather. It was downright miserable circumstances that left Alex in a particularly worse mood than usual, and it showed.
“I don't see why you're in such a good mood. We're probably going to end up sick because we had to walk home in this weather.” Alex complained, taking notice of the fact that Slade's cheerful demeanor didn't falter in the slightest. "Honestly, with the way you're acting, I wouldn't doubt it if you've already spiked a fever.”
“Come on, lighten up, Alex.” Slade responded, watching as the rain only continued to get heavier as lightning flashed across the sky, with sounds of thunder soon following. “I love the rain.”
“You can't seriously love this.” Alex disagreed, sticking closer to Slade in order to use him as somewhat of a shield. “Give me one reason why you find this enjoyable.”
This question actually caused Slade to hesitate, and for a moment he just kind of stopped. It wasn't really something he had really ever thought about, and when he took a moment to think, he found himself without reason. It was just one of those things.
“I don't really have a reason. I just think it's beautiful.” Slade finally answered, glancing towards Alex once more before looking back at the clouds. “You know, the gray skies kind of remind me of your eyes.”
“What did you just say to me?” Alex questioned in disbelief, stopping in his tracks abruptly. “I must have misheard—”
“I said your eyes are beautiful, Alex.” Slade reiterated, doubling down without hesitation. “Your eyes are the same color as the clouds, and the rain kind of reminds me of when you were on your knees for me in the shower last week—”
“Maybe you have a point about the rain not being completely horrible.” Alex swiftly interrupted, trying not to think about such events. “I mean, without the rain, we'd be in a drought, and that would be horrible.”
Alex had never been good at confronting his feelings or acknowledging the reality of what he had going on with Slade. It was much easier to cover things up by changing his perspective by seeing things from a scientific perspective rather than admitting that the only thing that changed was the way Slade had made him see things.
“Yeah, it would.” Slade agreed, not putting much thought into it as he opened the door to their apartment. “I think another shower could do us some good.”
“Just keep your hands to yourself this time.” Alex noted, not even thinking about the idea of taking one separately. “I better be able to walk after this shower too, Slade.”
If one thing could be said when it came to his perspective on the rain, it was the fact that it seemed far more beautiful than he had ever seen it, and there was no doubt that Slade was to blame for that.
