Chapter Text
мillie had always been pretty. Even when the blood was pooling around her long blond hair, and her normally bright blue eyes were dull, the blood splattered on her face mocking her freckles. Even when her once soft voice would never sound that same again after her broken call of my name left her lips. All our years as friends? Gone just like that, and tomorrow, everyone will wake up and get ready for the day just like they normally would, and soon nobody will remember her.

Sighing, I tuck a strand of my dark shoulder length hair behind my ear. Not being a stereotypical skinny girl makes life really hard. People are always staring and judging you. Millie and Mary would never look at me in that way though.
Millie laughs from across the classroom at some stupid joke that Billy said. I look back down at my phone. Mille’s social media page shows photos from when we went to the beach last week. Cute. I like the post and keep scrolling. Mary walks over to me and sits on the desk in front of me.
“Watch’ya lookin’ at?”
I hum. “Just Millie’s story. From when we went to the beach last week.” Mary smiles “That was loads of fun. We should do it again sometime.”
I nod. “Yeah. We should.”
The teacher walks in and Mary sits down next to me and Millie walks over and takes the desk on my other side.
Walking out of the classroom, I stand next to Millie as we wait for Mary to finish talking with the teacher.
“Do you wanna hang out on Friday?” Millie opens her phone.
“Sure. When do you get off?”
I open my calendar. “Four. I can pick you up from your class if you want.”
Millie nods. “Mary’s last class that day is 3:30 I think. So maybe she could pick us both up? Or she could just pick me up so you have less drive time.” I nod. “Sounds good.” Millie looks up and smiles brightly at Mary as she walks up to us. As she tells Mary about our plans and they plan it out, I walk next to them. Sometimes I feel left out when the three of us hangout, but it’s fine because as long as Millie is happy, I’m happy. The three of us split up as we go to our next classes.
Mary
Millie is a ball of sunshine. There is no other way that you could possibly describe her. Her long hair and green eyes are always so pretty. As she tells me about the plans for Friday, I smile and nod along agreeing to pick her up after my class. I wave by to her and Darcy as I leave to go to my job. I would best describe Darcy as a practical person. She has short hair, dark hair and lots of curves. I have no clue how I ended with two such pretty friends, but I am super lucky.
Connor walks up to me and smiles awkwardly. “Heyyyy Maryyyy. You know that paper that’s due today?” I smile knowing exactly where this is going.
“Yes I do know.”
“Did you finish yours?”
I nod. “Yes. Why?”
“Ummm… No reason.”
I nod. “Of course.”
I go quiet as we keep walking to class. Two minutes go by then-
“Could I please see your paper? Not to copy! I just didn’t know how to end mine, and I was wondering if I could read yours!”
I laugh as Conner practically raps out his explanation. “Of course.” As soon as we enter the classroom I pull my paper out and hand it to him.
“Thank you so much! You are my savior!” He thanks me with his entire soul and I laugh again pulling out my phone to have something to do before class starts. Darcy seemed kind of sad today. Definitely quieter than normal. I should check in with her when I see her next. I wonder if Millie had breakfast today.
Ruby
I really hate my job. All the shitheads that come in and mess up the shelves giving me more work. They really piss me off. There is one girl that I don’t mind though. I don’t really know her, and we don’t talk other than the required conversation, but she comes here often enough that I recognize her now. Her long blond hair is almost always tied up in a pony-tail, and you would think she is a basic mean girl but she’s not. From what I can tell anyways.
Like I said, I don’t know much about her other than her looks and what she always gets. She always gets two granola bars, then walks over to the bar and makes a coffee with two milks and two sugars. I smile as she walks over.
“Hello. Will that be all today?” I say this every time even though I know that the answer will always be-
“Yes thank you.”
I scan the items and add the coffee.
“That’s 6.50”
She pays and then says, “Thank you, have a nice day.” Then she leaves. I have started to give her a discount in recent days, and I don’t think that she has noticed, but she comes by often enough that making her pay ten dollars for a coffee and two granola bars is ridiculous. I sigh as the door opens and a group of boys walks in, knowing that my night is about to get a lot longer and way more exhausting.
Connor
I only met Millie in our freshman year, but I like her. She’s nice, has good humour and long hair. Sometimes she will look at me with her piercing blue eyes like I just said something so crazy that she can’t believe me. She always laughs at my jokes though, so I count it as a win. I look over the courtyard and see her looking around.
I call out, “Hey Millie! Over here!”
Her head whips over to where my voice came from, and walks over to our table. Me, Billy, Mary and Chloe are already sitting at the table. Me and Chole are dating, and I love her sooooo much. Her hair is currently in long braids with bits of blue and green dye throughout. Millie sits down and pulls out a granola bar placing her coffee down on the table next to her phone.
As lunch goes on, I silently pass her bits of fruit from my own lunch as I laugh at Billy’s story. Sometimes Millie forgets that she needs food to stay alive. I have been trying to help her get better, but it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. Today is a good day though because she eats all of the fruits that I hand her through lunch.
I wonder if the others know that she sometimes struggles to eat food, but then again they probably don’t. Millie is really good at hiding these things and is very private about her life. It took a lot of work to get her to tell me that she struggles with food. It might be easier for her to tell Mary and Darcy, but she probably doesn’t want to worry them about that. She’s always putting her friends before herself. I definitely don’t know even half of the things that she is struggling with.
Billy
Millie laughs easily. If anything, it’s hard for her not to laugh. She finds all my jokes super funny. I watch as she laughs with Mary about some video on her phone. I look down at my own phone and text Ruby asking if she wants to come over to my place Friday to watch a movie. Chloe stands.
“I’ve gotta go. My class is in ten minutes and it takes me five just to walk there.” She sighs and packs up her bag. Connor stands up and kisses her bye, Millie fake gagging in the background. Mary laughs, Billy joining in. Connor rolls his eyes.
“Real mature Millie. We’re only in college.” She sticks her tongue out in response, then grabs her bag, coffee and phone.
“I should also get going. My next class is across campus. Bye!!!” She gives air kisses to Mary and waves dramatically as she runs away laughing.
