I wanna make the best food ever and help baba out a lot, because mama can’t anymore.
He received her prayer.

"Do you understand its meaning, Childe?" He finally asks. There's a hard glint in his eyes, like he's trying to steel himself for his answer.
"Yeah." Loyalty and devotion, right? Between business partners? "I do. It's traditional, isn't it?"
Zhongli's eyes glow a warm amber in the near darkness, reflecting the soft shine of the lanterns. He studies his face with a strange intensity, as though Childe were a piece of high quality Nocticulous Jade being sold for suspiciously small sum and he's trying to find the blemishes that would explain the price. The weight of his gaze should be uncomfortable, boring into him like he can see into the very depths of his abyss-tainted soul, but Childe finds himself preening under the attention instead.
Childe accidentally proposes to Zhongli. Zhongli accepts.

Zhongli may be acting mortal now, something that only a few thousand years ago would have seemed impossible, but it still doesn't come naturally to him. He's still a dragon and an ancient god, even if his daily life now consists of dealing with the schedule of a funeral parlor and lacking mora.
And after 6,000 years, there are some things that are hard to forget - and people as well.
((Essentially, Zhongli is a parental figure for a multitude of people, both Adepti and mortals, and angst/chaos ensues))

Childe needs a fake boyfriend. When Zhongli offers to help in exchange for a small favor, neither could have anticipated the uncovering of a scheme big enough to change everything they know about the adepti.
It’s bad enough being a one-man public relations campaign, dodging the overbearing Liyue Qixing, and trying to solve what seems to be a burgeoning murder mystery, but navigating a relationship with Zhongli is just making things too complicated.

As the disk of orange dipped below the Liyuan waters and the twilight sky remained illuminated by dusky remnants of what had been, Zhongli’s golden-edged features took on a radiance of their own. It wasn’t the lights playing tricks on him when Childe saw the man’s eyes gleam, and he craved to know what that meant.
“Perhaps I give you too much credit.” He was smiling, now, and Childe’s breath caught in his throat. That was certainly new. “Maybe you do not listen as much as I thought you do.”
Childe processes just how different Rex Lapis, God of Contracts, and Zhongli, Wangsheng Funeral Consultant, really are.
They coincide at the worst of times, and it does some truly awful things to his heart.

Leaving Liyue Harbour so suddenly after that disaster had been a good decision. A very good one even. Yes, and letting go of that whole fiasco was an even better one.
Or so Childe vehemently tried to convince himself as his trembling hands wouldn’t let go off the Cor Lapis hair tie tightly gripped in them.
Leaning over the frozen railing of the Fatui ship taking him back home to Snezhnaya, the wind wouldn’t stop whipping his fringe into his eyes as if trying to tell him something.
What a pity.
Dropping that stupid hair accessory into the deep nothingness of the ocean to forget had sounded like such an easy and great idea.

Meanwhile, Zhongli worked himself into collapsing out of exhaustion—stubbornly ignoring the recovery time after the loss of his Gnosis—in his futile attempt to not loose yet another important person in his own unique but admittedly rather dense way. -

That was the plan. Or, at least, it had been, until the Tsaritsa requested an audience with him alone and asked to see his mark.“Tartaglia,” she began, serious. “That is Morax, the Geo Archon.”

Or, Ajax is Morax' soulmate, the Tsaritsa ships him off to Liyue, and he has to pretend like he doesn't feel like he's not good enough for the Geo Archon.

As part of a peace treaty, Snezhnaya and Liyue sends each other prized gifts every half a century. In this cycle, Childe was sent as a gift to Morax due to being one of the last few Snezhnayan fox hybrids. Thinking that he might end up in servitude or as mere possession, Childe is instead thrust into a new life because Morax is now living a double life as a mortal named Zhongli who works in a funeral parlor.

Но потом они назначили Предвестника ей в руководство, и она внезапно оказалась невольным консультантом по любовным вопросам для влюбившегося юнца, который имел достаточно силы, чтобы вселять ужас в сердца их врагов (и союзников), но не имел никакого представления о базовых вещах в искусстве романтики. Или хотя бы нормального человеческого поведения в этом аспекте.
Она почти уверена, что это не входило в её должностные обязанности. Возможно, ей стоило прочитать мелкий шрифт.

Summary
Ever since the Osial debacle, Childe has been avoiding a certain incognito former god turned funeral parlor consultant. But not because of any ill feelings that could’ve possibly carried over from said debacle, as one might assume, but because the realization that Zhongli and Rex Lapis are one in the same led to the worst case of 20/20 hindsight whiplash that Childe has ever experienced.
The moment it came upon him caused such a visceral, gut-wrenching reaction, he immediately had to excuse himself from the meeting he’d been having with Ekaterina to retreat into his private room and scream wordlessly into his pillow. Which was then followed up with him incoherently screaming at the memory of his past self– “You idiot! Moron! You absolute clown! What the fuck have you done to yourself?! What the fuck?!”
But he had to scream in that moment– he had to, because all his mind could do was replay a highlight reel of all the times he now so deeply regretted…
“Say Zhongli… when looking at one of his statues, don’t you think Morax is probably really hot? Like, he’s absolutely stacked! And that’s only what we can see from the front!"

Summary
Childe has had a crush on Zhongli for pretty much as long as he’s known him, but Zhongli surely doesn’t feel the same way, does he? An unusual encounter in the Spiral Abyss leaves Childe cursed with all his wishes coming true before his eyes, but when his thoughts turn towards Zhongli, and his feelings are revealed, Childe finds he’s been blind all along, and the two are more compatible in their desires than he’d ever have believed.
