Q blows out a breath. "No. I don't. Problem?"
Bond returns from a mission with visible head injuries. Scanning his skull with Q Branch's equipment gives Q a chance to observe the agent up close, but it also gives Bond opportunities to further confound Q.

Summary
Bond rolls forward, although his usual liquidly graceful movements are stiff from his injuries. Q doesn’t startle, too used to Bond’s antics over months of travelling together, although his breath does hitch when Bond sweeps his fingers under Q's glasses, brushing lightly against the dark bruises Q knows are still there.
"Think of this as a vacation,” Bond says. “You haven't stopped at all since we left London."
"A vacation," Q says incredulously. "With the scorching sun and questionable water and unreliable food supplies and a heightened chance of tropical water-borne diseases, and all my equipment sunk in the ocean."
“With the briny air and an abundance of wild and sea life and limitless possibilities," Bond counters, "without alerts or surveillance or the need to stare at a glowing screen for hours on end.”
(Post-Spectre mission fic, where the mission is to survive being stranded on a desert island, and shutting down Spectre's operations is a critical but secondary objective reserved for after they get off the island.
But when did MI6's missions ever run according to plan?)

Summary
003 has been healing for what seems like forever, and now that he finally has clearance to get physical, he's itching to take it to the extreme. An agent is only as good as his ability to take out a target, after all, and Gregory Hind is out to prove that he's still capable of doing just that. Unfortunately, things don't go quite as planned, but the consequences of his actions could effect more than just his pride. With the possibility of Q being taken away from Bond being one such consequence, he now has a mission of his own making - to set things right.

In which Q is seven, Bond is very much out of his element, and the world is about to get a taste of what a child super-genius can do when he only trusts one person. Period.
James Bond was used to dealing with two things, generally: guns, and people trying to shoot him with guns. Usually, the second was a problem, and could be solved with the first. Kids were neither as dependable as guns, nor was it socially acceptable to shoot them if they became threatening.
And how funny was it that one of Britain's best agents was more terrified by having to deal with a seven-year-old enigma than he was of facing a score of enemy sharp-shooters?

On our prompt fill blog, we were asked for an AU with Bond/Q having a child. Lily Bond appeared. Matters degenerated. She now has an entire story arc and life, in tandem with Hamish Holmes. They grow up together, John is the only sensible human being around, MI6 is dangerous, Hamish is precocious, and Lily and Mycroft are very close indeed.
