Summary
“I know it’s hard for you to open up sometimes, and I know you hate the thought of making yourself someone else’s responsibility-”
“Pot, meet Kettle,” Bobby grumbles before he can stop himself, a feeble attempt to try lightening the mood.
Buck shoots him a frown, annoyed and frustrated, but- “Shut up.” -there’s no heat in his words, and Bobby can’t help the small chuckle that escapes him.
it's been a few weeks since that fateful night, and they're all adjusting to their new normal.
a normal that has a very distinct lack of buck in it.
bobby's not the only one who's noticed that the kid's been shying away, and he's finally going to get to the bottom of this.
even if that means having a few difficult conversations along the way.(aka the fic where buck is questioning his place in life, bobby hates the buckley couch, & they both realize that maybe they should have been more honest with each other from the beginning)

He’s been through this song and dance too many times to count, with far worse people, and he knows every step by heart.
It's a testament to his upbringing- his ability to keep his cool in spite of whatever fire is burning just below the surface.
But he's learned well that there is a limit to what even a saint could endure, and Bobby Nash is far from a saint.buck's heroics have landed him in the hospital yet again.
bobby's getting real tired of watching the kid get hurt.
he's even more tired of margaret and phillip buckley thinking they can keep getting away with doing the bare minimum for their son.(aka my humble attempt at writing a scene where bobby finally tells buck's parents how he really feels)

Summary
After sustaining an injury on shift, Buck stays with Bobby and Athena while he recovers. They discover some hard truths about Buck's childhood.
___
Athena had never known a time before Buck was confident in his body. That’s why it takes her so long to realize that despite how self-assured he’s always seemed when it comes to existing in his own skin—she’s never seen him shirtless.
She’s never wondered why before—it’s never even crossed her mind to wonder. At least, not until she walks into the kitchen and catches Bobby trying to convince Buck to take his shirt off so they can check his over his wounds acquired on a recent call.
