There was no version of this where Parker walked out clean, and no version where she didn’t try. As he went over the plan in his mind, he didn’t let himself think about what came after. Didn’t let himself think about how she’d react or what it would cost. Because that part came later. Right now, there was only one thing that mattered—stopping her from walking into something she couldn’t walk out of.
