1 Missed Call
1:12 PM TUES 9 MAY
Frank HardyA fond smile spreads over his face. He remembers Dick writing that as his own contact name in Joey's communicator the first time he and Joey exchanged numbers. Joey knows it's an action influenced by paranoia rather than something meant as an inside joke between friends, but he likes to think of it as a mixture of both.
"Who are you mooning over?"
Lissa crosses her arms over her chest and cuts across the room to get closer to him. Joey tries not to instinctively jerk his communicator closer to his chest as she peers down at it with a curious glint in her eye.
"Frank Hardy," Joey spells out with his fingers. "He's a friend of mine."
Her brow furrows. "Frank? Have I met him?"
Joey shakes his head.
"What do you think he was calling for?"
Hopefully not to tell me that the world is on its way to ending, Joey thinks, worrying at his lip.
"Not sure," Joey signs. His thumb hovers over the call-back button. "I guess I'm about to find out."

Dick is a good guy. He is. He knows that. Just like he knows that bribing your wayward, animal-loving, emotionally-traumatized brother to come see you with a puppy is exactly what all good guys do. That was a fact.

Summary
Bruce Wayne gave up hope, stayed with the League of Shadows, and generally fucked up his entire life until a little kid called Dick Grayson came along and saved him anyway. Now on Ra’s al Ghul’s shit list, they travel the U.S. in whatever car they can get their hands on, trying to piece their hearts back together again.
A slightly different start to Batman.

Summary
Dick Grayson is eight, Bruce Wayne is trying, and there's a walk home in the rain.
Bruce is looking at him. He looks like a constipated penguin trying to juggle, all stilted movements and abject confusion. Penguins don’t even know what juggling is: they would have no idea what they were doing. To be fair, Bruce probably doesn’t know what he's doing either.

Summary
There was a woman there, standing on the other side of the door: dark brown hair was pulled back into a messy bun, a loose flowery blouse was decorating a lean and fit body. A frown was worn on her warm and open face, her deep brown eyes staring up at Dick.
She wasn’t that much smaller than him, maybe two or three inches, but it wasn’t her height that made Dick’s heart stop.
He knew that face - it was his mother's.
Or: Dick Grayson is still left reeling from Bruce's decision to take Robin away, when he gets stranded on a random midwestern gas station. He didn't expect to meet his parents there - they've been dead for nine years after all.

Summary
He remembers. He doesn't recall everything about his life- just bits and pieces- but it's enough for it to hurt.
And that level of being exiled, abandoned, whatever they would want to call it hurt. It feels like bile on his throat, sour and bitter, a taste that lingers. It feels like he was left beaten, left alone for the vultures to peck out his gross, amnesiac mind.
And maybe that's why Dick packed a bag and ran out of his apartment. And maybe that's why he's standing in front of Roy's apartment, clutching the strap of his bag like his life depends on it.

Day 2 - "Pick Who Dies" (2.1) by fanfictiongreenirises

Summary
"The tank, Bruce estimated, probably spanned about five by three metres. There was another side of the room that he could see through it, and the door that would hopefully lead out. There were little plants littered all over the tank, all giant and plastic. There was even a little filter at the top, making gurgling noises – it was turned on, with no water to pump through it."
Bruce and Dick get kidnapped.
