Summary
Growing up, Danny's parents had drilled it into him and Jazz the dangers of summoning rituals. Unlike something like a natural portal or the one they built in the basement, a summoning ritual brought ghosts to you without any clear way to send them back home.
After Danny's accident, he hadn't thought he needed to worry about summoning rituals anymore. After all, he kind of had his hands full with the whole "Ghosts are real and attacking him and also he's half-ghost now" thing.
However, once Danny took up the crown of Ghost King, he found himself having to deal with summoning rituals from the other side. It wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't constantly confronted with ghosts of a past he had shoved deep down in his heart.
AKA 5 times Danny runs away from Damian after being summoned to Gotham, and the 1 time he stays.

Summary
Bruce would not call himself the best father in the world.
Hell, some days he wouldn't even call himself a GOOD father. He knew he hadn't been the best influence for his kids, and the fact that he enabled their participation in something as dangerous as Vigilantism definitely didn't win him points. He'd put his work above his children a few times too many, so focused on getting answers. He needed to keep everyone safe, be the symbol Gotham deserved. At the end of the day, his children suffered for it.
Still, Bruce figured he'd gotten better at this whole "parenting" thing. He hadn't had any major fuck ups in quite a few years. Adding Duke to the fold had gone smoothly--even Damian hadn't put up too much of a fuss at his newest brother. His children and him generally had an amicable relationship, and they all seemed happy with their lives. Bruce had done some good.
Of course his good streak couldn't last.

Summary
Damian has saved dozens of stray animals throughout his years as Robin. He's been bitten, scratched, yowled at, and at one point even pissed on. Damian knows this humiliation is simply a fear response. These animals are wary. They're hurt and need proof that Damian will not harm them like so many humans had in the past. He is patient. He can wait out the period of distrust in order to find these animals better homes.
When he starts summoning Danny for weekly visits, Damian never thought he'd be treating his brother like a stray. Yet, something is clearly weighing on Danny, and Damian is determined to figure it out.

Summary
Danny knew Mother loved him and Damian. Mother had made it extremely clear that Danny and Damian were the lights of her life, her entire soul. She loved them, truly and deeply. However, her love had not protected them for the horrors of the League.
The Fentons loved Danny. They loved him, Danny knew they loved him. That love didn't protect him from their scalpels and dissection table.
Damian promises Danny that Bruce loves him. That Dick and Jason and Tim and Cass and Duke and all of the others in the Bat clan would adore him as one of their own. Damian seems to think that this love will keep Danny safe. But Danny knows better. He knows that as much as his brother loves him, even Damian cannot keep him from danger. While the bats are helping him recover, Danny waits for the other shoe to drop.
Love can't keep him safe. Not even Damian's.

Summary
Danny feels restless.
After three weeks with the Waynes, his incisions have healed (mostly), his core recovered (not really), and his nightmares gone (that one was a straight up lie). Danny is more than fine enough to get back out into the world. However, with Amity Park declaring him legally dead and the GIW only continuing to grow in their efforts to find him, Danny can't find many chances to stretch his legs.
When Damian complains about going to a gala that Sam is also being forced to attend, Danny decides it's time to put their identical looks to use. After all, what's the point of being a twin if you didn't try to trick your parents at least once? Plus, it was just a gala. Danny doubted anything would go wrong while he was hanging with Sam and Tucker.
He shouldn't have put so much faith in his luck.
