With the first semester of culinary school completed, Arthur, Eames, and Ariadne continue to hone their skills in the culinary arts, focusing a bit more deeply on courses that will help them get the sort of job they want, upon completion of their degrees. This semester, as part of the curriculum (and to help them get an idea of what a job in the culinary industry looks like, outside the classroom), they each have the opportunity to take an internship with a bakery or restaurant in the Los Angeles area. As they get a good look at what a real professional kitchen looks like, they also test their respective relationships and friendships, discovering whether they can take the heat, after all. Summary
Arthur's known since he was young that he has a knack for cooking and baking, and beginning culinary school only makes him more certain. But no matter how good he is, it seems Eames is better – which does not endear him to Arthur in the slightest. Eames, however, is quite determined to get Arthur to open up and stop being so uptight and prickly by any means necessary. While each hones his skill in the culinary arts (and Arthur desperately tries to convince Ariadne that the desired structural integrity of her cakes violates basic laws of physics), they increasingly find themselves drawn together, inside the classroom and out. Given such close quarters in the kitchen, and the amount of sensory stimulation involved with preparing all manner of food, it starts to become difficult for Arthur to retain his customary level of distance and detachment. And, as Arthur will find, when it comes to unsatisfied appetites, hunger is often the best sauce of all.

He was in a country where he knew no one, so how had someone who knew him showed up to humiliate him at just this precise moment? Only he would inherit an apparent six million pounds just so the universe could find new ways to laugh at him.
Arthur collapsed on the dock and said, “Go away. No. I’m not Arthur.”
“The steward said you are,” said the voice.
Arthur groaned. “Not now. Come back later.”
“Yes, sir.” There was a pause. “Later when?”
Arthur gave up and lifted his head and finally looked at the man who was talking to him. Arthur was a little dizzy from a few days of not eating and of ejecting everything he tried to eat, so he really just had an impression that the man was good-looking and had a paisley handkerchief peeking out of his breast pocket and wasn’t wearing a hat.

Eames caught him up and kissed him.
Arthur’s foot slipped on the brake and the car rolled and Arthur pulled away and said, “Fuck,” hastily slamming his foot back down and shifting the car into park. “Don’t do that when—” Eames swallowed the rest of what Arthur was going to say, practically crawling over onto Arthur’s seat with him and kissing him up against the door. They were still in Arthur’s neighborhood. Arthur had no idea what people who saw him were going to say and he also didn’t fucking care, he would have pulled Eames directly onto his lap if there’d been room with the steering wheel in the way.
Eames pulled back a breath and said, “I’m going to find some Spotify playlist called ‘Coffee Shop’ or something to make you relax. You’re going to drive us somewhere so we can see some fucking leaves.”
Arthur nodded breathlessly.
