Bard Bowman had no need for the job except when he found out who the mark was. Done deal. That his rival; Thranduil Oropherson, was also involved didn't make it better. Then again....he'd get back what had been taken from his family, along with the added bonus of being able to pay back Thranduil for their last encounter. Either way it was win-win for Bowman.

Thranduil had always loved books more then people. Running a bookstore should be the ideal job for him. Except of course that stores, successful ones anyway are full of people. Tauriel, his customer-distracter decides he should buy the failed soup and sandwich shop next door and turn it into a coffee shop because coffee attracts people. She does this of course because she knows it bothers him, she knows.

Thranduil's wife passed tragically a year ago, and since then, he has been living vicariously through his neighbors, Bard Bowman and his wife. He imagines their happiness together, and pictures what he and his wife would be like with such happiness if she were still living. Convinced that the Bowmans across the street are happy, he has no idea the strain and turmoil their relationship is about to undergo as Bard's taken a job opportunity that requires he travel intermittently. Feeling unimportant and unwanted by her husband, his wife seeks attention from a man she has only just met, and this chance encounter escalates quickly to a fiercely sexual relationship kept under wraps. Thranduil finds his illusions of a happy couple destroyed one evening when Bard comes to him, wanting advice on losing his spouse. Their relationship grows, too, however, and both men find themselves wondering if what they're feeling for each other is real.

Thranduil’s visits never ceased, growing as frequent and lengthy as possible for them, both long since having lost all sense of pretence over why Thranduil came to Dale, and why Bard travelled to Mirkwood so often. Bard and the Elvenking were great friends, anyone in all of Middle Earth could have told you.
