When his neighbor Thranduil (Rand) drops off a pregnant mare he rescued to Prancing Pony Ranch, Bard is in for a big surprise. Exactly what he needs is the last thing he expects. Their new found mare pops out an unlikely foal, one that sprouts wings and delivers just as much trouble as they do magic.

Two ancient kingdoms are in desperate need of repair if their people are to have any chance at survival, and the king is lying injured in the healing tents. Fili knows that it's all up to him, but how can he help his people or his friends when he, too, is also trying desperately to survive?

When Thorin's rule as King Under The Mountain comes into question 13 years after Erebor was reclaimed, Fíli alongside Ori step up to assure their restless kinfolk of the future of their reclaimed kingdom by offering to marry and produce the next in line to the Throne Under The Mountain.
While having known each other since they were pebbles, both Fíli and Ori will realize they have a lot to learn if their nascent friendship and arranged marriage have a chance of making it at all.
Can love grow amidst duty and remain, or was their idea all for naught?

When Thorin Oakenshield, the lazy regent king of Erebor, catches one such thief trying to steal the Arkenstone, he seizes the opportunity for a distraction from his royal duties and offers the burglar a deal: steal one fourteenth of the wealth in the mountain by the end of the year or be executed for his crimes.

In the evening before the Battle of the five armies, after Gandalf and Bilbo talked to Thranduil and Bard, the latter two stay together in Thranduil's tent. A moment of curiousity leads to unexpected intimacy.
"You may touch it if you want.", he said.
Thranduil's gaze snapped up from his beard to his eyes in surprise.
"Touch... it? Your beard?", he repeated in a tone of disbelief that Bard had never heard in his voice before. Though he certainly did not seem repulsed by the idea.
"Yes, if you want to.", Bard confirmed, again stepping closer.
