Summary
For the Marines, the months after the Paramount War are nothing short of chaos. The Admirals need more bodies to replace their fallen ranks, costly repairs for the naval base, and – perhaps most importantly – a way to save face after their contingency measure, the Seven Warlords of the Sea, had failed catastrophically. The entire system looks ineffectual at best, and outright corrupt at worst. The Admirals are under enormous pressure from the headquarters to find a replacement, tout de suite.
Buggy will remember those months not for grand political reasons, but as a neat demarcation of his short, torrid relationship with Red-Haired Shanks. He acknowledges the affair the same way he acknowledges his new political position in the world: bravado belying deep unease.
By joining the Warlords, Buggy is to become a perfect propaganda piece that exemplifies the World Government’s domination over Roger’s legacy. But Buggy is quickly learning that there are permanent consequences to every action and that even while apart, he and Shanks remain disjointed souls connected by a lifeline of blood.
A story in which fate has a peculiar sense of humor. Or rather: a tale in which all fortunes lead to the same end.
