Summary
A century and half ago, Vash Saverem crashed Project SEEDS into an uninhabited planet in an effort to gain control over the human race. His twin brother Nai has been dragged kicking and screaming into saving humanity when he'd really rather just leave them alone. But while the two of them have fought to a standstill on No Man's Land, things are about to become a lot more complicated with the imminent arrival of Earth's military.
Nai and his allies race to warn the Earth fleet of the danger posed by his brother, while Vash has plans to use the Earth ships to take power on No Man's Land, once and for all.

Vash’s heart skips a beat, or two, or three. Perhaps it stopped altogether. It might as well, and pull him straight from the living world into Hell or Heaven or whatever afterlife there is for a man like him, because he’s looking at the face of a dead man.
The sunlight from the broken windows shines across the priest’s face, highlighting the arch of his nose, the sharp angle of his cheekbones, the stubble on his jaw, the warm dark skin under jet black hair. He wears a smile, that damned smile, the one that was shared with Vash so rarely yet burned itself into his retinas regardless, where it quirks up at one side and crinkles at the edges of his eyes. His robe is undone, revealing a simple grey button up shirt beneath, done up to only halfway up his chest. A rosary hangs below his collarbones.
The priest steps down from the altar, hesitant. "Hey, are you good? You look like you're gonna hurl."

Vash ends up in New July City to visit some Independent PLANTs. His past, unfortunately, shows up in the form of a priest with warm skin and a bright smile, and he doesn't think he can outrun it this time.

It’s the girls’ idea to get them all together for Vash’s birthday. It’s hard to say whether it’s Vash’s first birthday without his brother, because he hasn’t told anyone when Knives died yet, but it’s definitely his first birthday where you all know he’s alive that he’ll be spending without his brother. To put it plainly, it’s not really about actually celebrating—though you imagine you’ll be doing a bit of that, too—it’s more about making sure he makes it through the day without wanting to die.

Chronica’s gaze shifts down to the lighter. “Would you mind smoking somewhere else?” she asks with a fair bit of scorn. “It smells horrible, and the smoke is harmful to plants, you know.”
Wolfwood already has a retort ready on his tongue when she drops that little piece of information. He’s trying to quit, he’s smoking ten cigarettes a day now instead of thirty- except he’s still doing it around Vash. Who’s still a plant, even if he used up all his mystical energy. Who is apparently being harmed by the cigarette smoke that Wolfwood has been blowing into his face, kissing straight into his lungs, sometimes even filling their motel room with a horrible chain smoking habit.
How many times has he smoked around Vash? It’s got to be in the hundreds- maybe even thousands.
Wolfwood feels vaguely uneasy.
wolfwood finds out smoking is bad for plants. then he remembers that vash is also technically a plant. he contemplates his choices- in that order.
