Shadow est un esprit qui vit dans la Forêt Enchantée où Sonic s'est récemment installé. C'est un être immortel solitaire, enveloppé de mystère, qui observe Sonic de loin.
Shadow est attiré par ce mélange de puissance et de vulnérabilité, car en Sonic il voit une part de lui-même: le poids des responsabilités, le doute d'être plus une arme qu'un héros.
Leur rencontre est inévitable. Tous deux sont solitaires, tous deux portent sur leurs épaules le poids d'un pouvoir qui les isole du monde.
Deux forces si opposées - la lumière rapide de Sonic et l'ombre froide de Shadow - parviendront-elles à trouver l'équilibre ? Et une fois le combat terminé, sauront-ils choisir l'amour plutôt que la solitude ?
