“You’re a doctor.”
The pair’s heads shot towards the direction of the new voice, seeing Arthur and Sherlock standing in the doorway, the latter putting on his gloves as he continued; “In fact, you’re an Army doctor. And your daughter wants to go to school in hopes of joining law enforcement. Detective, possibly?”
“Yes,” John said, clearing his throat as he stood up with the help of his cane, his daughter standing up as well.
“Are you any good?” Arthur asked. Maisie scoffed at that, lightly glaring at the boy as she crossed her arms, she was somewhat offended. “Any good? He’s the best.”
“Seen a lot of injuries, then. Violent deaths.”
“Well, yes,” John confirmed as Sherlock and Arthur walked closer to the pair. “Bit of trouble too, I bet?”
“Of course. Yes. Enough for a lifetime, far too much.”
Sherlock slightly raised an eyebrow. “... Want to see some more?”
“Oh, God, yes.” The doctor replied, his face stoic.

Summary
A case with little to no evidence becomes too much for Scotland Yard and Sherlock Holmes steps in. The third victim in a chain of seemingly unrelated murders was found with only bruises and no apparent cause of death. The police find evidence pointing to a break-in but and Sherlock insists that it was something else. Defeated by the lack of evidence, Sherlock decides to drop the case. Little does he know, the man behind the murders is far from over with Sherlock – and more dangerous than anyone thought. If he isn’t careful, the famous detective might as well end up as the fourth and final victim.

A week later and Doctor John Watson is struggling to cope with the fact that his best friend is dead.
The days leading up to the funeral are the worst in John’s life as he tries to fight the grief. Suddenly, everything is at a standstill when Sherlock's body goes missing the day before his funeral. The scene of the crime is almost spotless, with no signs of a break-in; almost as if the body got up and walked away. With Scotland Yard completely swamped and no consulting detective to trace his own corpse, it is up to John and an unexpected ally to solve Sherlock Holmes’ last mystery.

Breaks with canon from the lab scene in Hound of the Baskerville.
His action of tearing the sheet back startled John badly, causing him to try and jump to his feet to run away. He cracked the top of his head against the bars so hard the cage actually shifted a little. Sherlock instinctively winced in sympathy at the loud clang as John clamped his hands to his head… but he still never made a sound apart from his shallow but rapid breathing.
After the events in Baskerville, the first thing that Sherlock notices is that John doesn't argue with him anymore. Unfortunately, that isn't the only change in his behaviour. Sherlock doesn't know why or how best to help... he just knows that for the first time in his life, he wants to be there for someone else.
