Summary
The speakeasy feels more like a church, or maybe a cult - a roomful of forbidden prayer, compelling the voice into tongues. Eurydice stays in the shadows in the back, and stares just like everyone else in the room towards the stage.
Persephone’s there, up with the steel microphone stand pressed against her body, crooning into the cold dead metal like it’s her cold dead man. She’s still dressed in her mourning blacks, but the lights in here (colored glass over the lamps, a few neons, because the Lady’s always been a hypocrite) make the embroidered beads sparkle like the jewels her husband must ladle upon her. The scent of her perfume - or maybe the perfume of her scent, all pomegranates and grass - fills the air in here, compels every dead eye upon her, as if their worship means Life might give them just a little more time to savor in Her before they go back to their shifts in this world down here.
