Summary
The two stumbled, the girl whipping around to brace her hands on Orpheus’s chest before she broke apart from him. Orpheus nearly dropped the bottle of wine in his hands, but his attention wasn’t on the alcohol.
It was on the girl in front of him.
The two stared at each other for a moment, a beat, as if time itself froze them together in a trace. The girl was transfixed, her guard slipping as she looked at the deer-like face of Orpheus. Orpheus looked back. Wide eyes and a slightly agape mouth, he took a step back from the girl. And as she stood still, Orpheus’s fingers drummed at the side of his pants.
Hermes recognized the look on the young musician’s face. He’d seen it so many times. The look of pure love, of enamoration, of obsession. But Hermes could tell there was something else mixed and lingering within the eyes of Orpheus, looking like a deer underneath a train’s blinding headlights.
The dread of realization.

A young girl, a worker from Hadestown. At the age of ten, she was tricked into the Underworld by Hades. She doesn't know how old she is now. She remembers nothing, except for one thing: a name, Ruthie.
Naturally, she thinks it's her own name. If there's one thing she'd remember from her past, it'd be her own name, right? But then why does she feel a numb sadness inside of her when she thinks of it, as if a part of her chest was ripped out and never put back?
Everything changes when a dreamy singer boy walks into Hadestown, determined to rescue one of the worker girls. He talks all about bringing spring back, creating a world that seems too perfect to be true. But Mr. Hades is a ruthless old man and he sends Orpheus away before he even got the chance to explain himself.
That's when the girl decides she has to take matters into her own hands. If she'll wait until someone else brings spring back, she can wait for eternity. And stealing from the Queen of the Upside-Down doesn't sound so hard, does it?
As she tries to save the world from freezing away, her memories slowly drip back into her mind. And with that, she gets in touch with herself again.

We've heard this tale before, and now we're experiencing it again, through the form of a novel. The musical Hadestown gets reimagined into a book, with the same characters you know and love.
Maybe this time, everything will turn out all right.
My hyperfixation is going wild, so I've taken Hadestown and reimagined it as a novel! I've incorporated lyrics from the musical with my own original dialogue to tell this story in a new way. None of the characters are mine, as I am just retelling the musical. All rights go to their respective owners. I hope you enjoy it! (TW: mentions of death, alcohol, violence, suicidal thoughts) Please let me know if you do enjoy this, as I've never done anything like this before!

Eurydice came down to Hadestown two years ago. The winds were too harsh up above. Food was too scarce. And nobody in the entire world cared about her. So what else was a girl to do, but run to a place with stability into the arms of a man willing to care for her? Now Hades wants to expand his empire, and Eurydice is assigned the task of wrecking the world up above to bring the eternal blazing hot of Hadestown to the entire surface.
