    “What, me and Jiang Cheng? There's not much to tell, really.” Wei Ying pats at his hair, tangled around the base of the ponytail he forgot to untie last night. “Our parents are friends, but we're not all that close...”

    In a slightly kinder world, Wei Ying's parents do not go missing during a night hunt, and Jiang Cheng doesn't have to watch his parents' marriage break apart because of the fallout.

    In which after they were saved from the Xuanwu Cave, Wei Wuxian was punished by Yu Ziyuan and he has decided that he had enough. Wei Wuxian defected from Yunmeng-Jiang Sect. He left and he did not look back.

    The next time Wei Wuxian became aware of his surroundings and was able to form semi-coherent thoughts, Wen Zhuliu had just finished tying weights to his feet. Both his arm and his back were still bleeding and he felt as if he had been flayed.

    “Should I make it quick?” Wen Zhuliu asked him, offering a small mercy.

    But Wei Wuxian shook his head. “Give me your worst,” he snarled, his teeth coated in blood from where he had bitten his tongue at some point. “I will come back to end you all,” he promised darkly.

    “Very well,” Wen Zhuliu merely said and drowned him.

    Or: Yu Ziyuan cuts off Wei Wuxian's hand to appease the Wens. He gets drowned in the lake behind Lotus Pier and resentful energy transforms him into a river spirit. After avenging his own death, he finds his way to Yiling.

    Sizhui’s brows furrowed when he noticed the next thing that caused the hair on his nape to rise.

    Disciples – an army even, all wearing black and red with a familiar insignia embroidered on their chest and sleeves. He will never go wrong with that insignia. He has seen it on his a-niang’s skin after all.

    And this army was surrounding Lotus Pier.

    Sizhui felt like vomiting when one conclusion came into his mind after his half-finished observation.

    In which Lan Sizhui time-traveled to the past and he may or may not have caused mayhem of mass destruction and a few murders here and there with just one goal in mind: to keep his parents safe and have their happy ending without experiencing too much pain. Nothing else matters after that.
