Disappointment had driven Mr Boldwood to isolation. Being a disappointment, and one fateful night, had caused Miss Nightingale to hide her shame behind a veil. Both had resigned themselves to the irrefutable truth that love wasn't in the cards for them. And love was the furthest thing from either of their minds when they met at the Corn Exchange. Miss Nightingale couldn't understand how a man could be so rude and haughty, and Mr Boldwood couldn't fathom why such a confounding woman who hid her face should wish to engage with him for no other reason than the desire to speak to him.
But when her cousin Bathsheba sends Mr Boldwood the valentine's card under the penmanship of Miss Nightingale, something reawakens inside his heart, and Miss Nightingale, though upset at first to have been dragged into this prank, sees a side of Mr Boldwood that she had never seen before.
Both carry their scars, emotional and physical, but can this symbol of hope and possibility be enough to convince two people who weren't destined to be together to find the courage to lay the past to rest and embrace the happiness and love they had denied themselves?
