He scratched at the stubble along his jaw with a thumb and index finger and let the motion distract him from a thousand questions. “Okay, okay, calm down.” he said, letting faux patience drip from the words. He studied the deity, with curiosity. Their long black hair was wild, plastered to their temples and cheeks and their chest heaved with shallow, frantic breaths. Whatever had brought them here hadn’t been gentle.
