Hanson and Booker have been dating for a while. They have not kept it hidden but neither one of them is a fan of PDA. Especially in a workplace or around people they know.
However they've both said on many occasions at work they are together and often say they can't be paired together on a case because they'll get distracted by each other.
Everyone just thinks it’s a running joke they have or sarcasm since they still think the two hate each other.
Dennis and Tom notice this and ask about it. When everyone confirms they don’t believe them they decide to try and prove to them all their together. No matter how much PDA they have to show.

Dennis is an actual high school student who's been trying to go out with new student Tom who won't give him the time of day.
After accidentally agreeing to go on a date with Dennis he somehow ends up just really being his boyfriend.
They really start to fall in love and Tom is afraid of breaking his cover or any of his partners finding out he's dating a student. He’s also dreading the day he'll have to 'move' and break up with Dennis to keep his cover.
Also, in school Tom is going for an attractive geeky nerd cover.
