President Shinra leads his eponymous organization and is the world's de facto ruler. Unbeknown to most of the world, Shinra's existence hides many atrocities and acts of despotism committed since its rise to power, including public manipulation and internal scandal, in addition to abuses of its authority, from morally questionable scientific experimentation, human rights abuses, unaddressed civil inequalities and unrest, military and police-scale oppression, as well as repeated denial of any detrimental effects resulting from the use of mako as a source of energy.
Cloud Strife, a mercenary for hire, finds himself pulled into a fight against Shinra, and soon, it leads to something greater than freeing the people of Midgar. The same goes for Ann Fair, who is still reeling over her brother's death. Both harbor the dreams and honor of one individual, and they are bound to fight once again.

Tifa tilted her head and smiled at him. "You never know." Wagging a playful finger, she added, "Besides, wishes don't come true on their own, you know. You have to work for them."
Work for them? Okay, then. "I'll do that instead."In a modern twist to FF7 that removes monsters and magic, Sephiroth was once a SOLDIER 1st Class Special Ops Officer, who, for unknown reasons, lost his mind during a mission to Nibelheim and went on a rampage, murdering everyone he came into contact with. He ended his killing spree by blowing up the reactor before disappearing.
Five years later, Cloud Strife-presumed sole survivor of the incident-wakes up in hospital and learns of the tragedy, and discovers he's one of President Shinra's illegitimate children. More revelations rock Cloud's unsteady world view, but in the midst of things he finds hope and sanctuary with the one person he longed to see the most: Tifa Lockhart.

1) Sephiroth almost corrected the first person who called Aerith his sister, a woman they’d met before they were even out of Midgar’s slums complimenting him on taking such good care of her, while their mother shopped.
2) The other half of Project S took after their father.
3) Blue eyes contemplated him narrowly for several seconds, and then Genesis’ smirk came back, lying on his face more easily, somehow. “So brothers-in-arms to the skirmish shall we hence?”
4) It felt wrong to be relying on anybody but Mother, but Mother…only cared about Sephiroth, and it wasn’t fair. Loz sniffled. “Will she take care of Yazoo, too?”
5) Sephiroth nodded, and bent forward, and peered at the squashed little pink thing until it stirred, objecting probably to cool air on its face. “What’s his name?”
“Cloud."
6) “Cloud,” he said, his fingers tightening on nothing because he had cast his own sword down, atop the coiled piles of his hair, “do you not remember?”
