Kate took in as much of a breath as she could fill her burning lungs with and heard her own voice crack as she breathed, “Tyler?”
His eyes softened at the sound of her dispirited voice, they had glistening tears pooling as he tensed his own hand in a fist before placing it back on Kate’s arm. This shouldn’t have happened. It was needless, stubborn, and horrifying that any of this happened, they should've never ended up in that storm much less have died as a result of it.
OR a very self-indulgent slight enemies to lovers with both Tyler and Kate meeting in college before her project leads to the deaths of her friends and offers a friendship to her as he processes his own similar losses.

Alcohol. Antiseptic. Copper. Her throat seemed to swell shut, choking on the stench of it all as the shrill beeps of the machines all around her droned on and on. The scratch of the paper gown was infuriating, her skin mottled shades of blues and sickish greens. Angry red welts and lacerations lining her arms and cheeks, but none of it seemed to matter as she stared down at the long strip of a bandage that stretch from pelvis to the almost blackened skin of a knee. Only, this time it wasn’t her own flesh marred by a jagged web of stitches.

It’s late when she gets the call, or rather it’s too damn early. Kate fumbles for her ringing phone, “Hello?”
There’s a crackle on the other line, the sound cutting right through her usual daze of nightmares that tear apart her idea of reality. She almost ends the call, but then she’s reminded as to why she picked up in the first place. Javi’s voice is rough and breaking, and she can’t tell if it’s from the rocky signal or something else, “Hey, Kate.”
(Or, Javi ends up staying at Kate's apartment when the two of them get snowed in, things happen, conversations happen, eventually things fall together.)

Summary
Kate used to have no clue to where she was going. Now she is running towards the storms that took everything from her and gave her life a purpose.
Tyler has made it his life’s work to chase thrills, running towards anything just to feel everything, except now his heart is outside his chest and it runs into danger without a second thought. He doesn’t think the answer is in rodeo dates and tornados this time, at least not entirely.
It’s been over a year since El Reno, and Kate has secured a transfer to Norman, OK, and back to storm chasing. After finally reeling herself from a diabolical lease, and getting her credits transferred. Tyler is happy to help Kate change the world as long as he stands beside her. All while trying to keep his head above after the horrors of the outbreak, and keep him and his team alive.
This is a story of healing and love told in roughly chronological order, through interconnected vignettes and stories.
