Saying that the Captain had been stressed out recently would be a little bit of an understatement. Starfleet had been up his ass about getting preparations for an up and coming initiation into the Federation absolutely perfect. He had been sluggish, more irritated than usual, and more often than not left Spock the con for hours on end.
Spock, reasonably worried for his Captain, goes to investigate and finds Jim... hitting a blinker with some lower deckers.
