He had never really appreciated it, back before—well, before. Before the quest, before the deal, before the whispers of a being older than time itself—before, silence had felt oppressive, frightening. The lack of noise used to scare him, like a blanket of anticipation—like waiting for the other shoe to drop.
He had always hated being alone, had always sought out his mother during the nights that got too quiet. He would curl up in her lap as she sang to him, brushing through his hair and holding him like the most precious thing in the world. She would rock him so, so gently, promising that she would always be there, that she would always keep him safe, and he had always wanted to believe her.

Content Warning: Really awkward and terrible drunk flirting by a moron that would probably give you feelings of second hand cringe!)
(Don't worry, nothing too terrible happens here.)
The kingdom is huge so everyone in the party knew it would take a while to escore Elliot from one side to the other. So a long rest is inevitable. So, they decide to rest up for the night in a tavern. Mara and Rayne decide to have a cute little date together away from the rest of the group. But just as Mara left for a moment, Rayne had to deal with an unwelcome, but familar experience. A sleazy idiot decides to shoot his shot. He's drunk out of his face and was not getting the hint.
But just as Rayne was ready to handle the situation, Mara returned, and was more than happy to be Rayne's knight in shining armour.
