Captain James William had a problem. Right now, had just revealed his innermost secrets (except one, but really everyone could infer this just by common sense), revealed his death, revealed everything about him and left him bare. And when everything just continued on as if nothing had happened.
However, the Captain really couldn’t care right now. He knows that everyone already knew how he died, and he was accepted by Fanny, someone whose opinion mattered greatly to him. She stuck with him to and fro, and was definitely a great companion to be with when dead. He never loved her in the romantic sense, no, maybe it was something to do with… actually, he just didn’t know. But now, he just didn’t care.
No, no—the problem was that someone had come to Button House, and this person brought on a less living, more special (to Captain James) someone.
OR
Some people reenacting World War II accidentally showed up at the wrong house. Unbeknownst to them, they brought someone special along to Button House with them.

“Yes. I, um…oh gosh. I feel a little nervous actually!” Anthony laughs shyly and takes another sip of wine.
“Don’t be,” James says immediately. “You can tell me anything.”
He wants to reach over and take Anthony’s hand; he wants to comfort and reassure him. But he doesn’t want to overwhelm Anthony, so he gives him his space.
Instead James tries to memorise everything about this moment, his heart in his mouth, as he’s almost certain this is about to be the happiest moment of his life. He takes in the colour of Anthony’s eyes in the dim light, the smell of the toad-in-the-hole, the sound of birds chirping their evening song outside, Anthony’s ridiculous Mickey Mouse t-shirt -
“Alright.” Anthony’s smile is soft. “I wanted to tell you that I’ve met someone.”

An exploration of a "what if" world where all of the ghosts are in fact coma patients, and are simply waiting for the opportune moment in which to awaken.

To be fair, she was barely awake, so her mental awareness to what Pat had asked was remarkably low.
“Oh? What are those then?” The question was light and honest, and Alison’s hadn’t yet received the benefits of her morning coffee, so she started talking before thinking.
“My hormonnnnnnnn…” she trailed off pulling a face when her brain finally caught up with her tongue and all the blood drained from her face.
For a couple seconds she and Pat just stared at each other, the ghost with a confused frown and Alison with the pills in her hand and just realizing what she had almost said. And more importantly, what she hadn’t told to any of the ghosts.-

Robin sticks his head out the door, literally, beginning to make a hooting noise. He pulls back enough to cry out "INTRUDER!" before racing, presumably, after Kitty.
The rest of the ghosts quickly follow. Alison groans, but follows after them anyway. Robin is still shouting and running towards a faraway fence past Pat's tree, he's managed to catch up with Kitty. The rest of the ghosts are hot on their heels but each at different paces- with Julian and Fanny lagging behind for the sake of their dignity.
Because then, she realises exactly what, or who, she's looking at. Behind Kitty, staring terrified at the house, is a young girl. She's wearing a tank top and black trousers. Alison breaks into a run, desperately trying to reach her, her heart hammering against her rib cage and her chest seizing up. She prays to whatever god is out there. Please.

Following the flashback to the Captain's death in Carpe Diem (Series 5 Episode 5), we know that Havers has survived the war and he and the Captain share an intimate moment as the Captain dies. But what happens next? This attempts to answer some of these questions and create a bridge between that episode and the Afterlife fic "War Is Over (If You Want Me)".
"Explain yourself,” bellowed the general, his moustache bristling.
Havers had several images flash through his mind: holding the Captain’s hand, talking to him tenderly and calling him James; yelling angrily at a room full of officers some of whom outranked him and inferring that some of them purposely stayed safely away from the front lines; and failing to return to camp last night.

There was a pause before the sound of angry footsteps approached them. Fanny stuck her head through the doorway. “Augh! And who are you supposed to be??”
“Wha-? What do you mean?” Alison said with a confused smile.
“Stop stuttering! Who are you?? Why are you in my house??”
“Who am I? I’m Alison.” Fanny still looked confused so she added, “Cooper? I’ve lived here for years?”
“Oh, no, you have not! I would’ve surely noticed if improper vagrants such as yourselves lived here! I– Oh… you’re two more of George’s lovers. I see how it is. Well, let me just say that I’ve found out your dirty little secret and I will be making sure you’re all punished to the full extent of the law!!”
Mike shot up from his seat, eyes wide, what was happening finally setting in. “I can see you!”
“Well, of course you can see me! And stop pointing, it’s rude! I– eugh– I don’t have time for this! George! You better be saying your prayers because when I find you I’m going to–”
She stormed away and Mike and Alison turned to each other with horrified expressions.

Narrowing her eyes at the man’s slightly mocking tone, Alison just shook her head in annoyed confusion.
“What party?”
“My party” he smiled, gesturing with his hands and raising his eyebrows as if to help prompt her recognition.
Instead, Alison blankly stared at the exhilarated man and shook her head in growing frustration.
“What? A party? I have no idea what you’re talking about, Thomas”

Surely they wouldn’t have forgotten…would they?
