Robin has lived a long death. Mary makes it bearable.
Robin watched the flames dying. The people had all gone now and the woods were quiet again. The villagers had drifted away, left the house to the silence and the moon. Left the woman, the woman in the flames.
He sniffed, shuffling forwards out of the bracken. A charred smell still filled the air, smoke still creeping out across the fields, across the boundary Robin could never cross again.
“Fire,” he mumbled, peering through the evening light. The woman was still standing in the middle of the burnt wood.
Humphrey, who Robin had half forgotten was still leaning on a stump a little way back, said, “Yes, you’ve said that.”

He didn’t know when he was born. Under the moon, surely. In his time, that didn’t matter. He was named Rrho, one of the few noises they could pronounce in those times. Those days, names didn’t have a meaning, such silly things didn’t matter, what mattered was that he survived into adulthood.
He was one of few, for one winter was especially cruel. They had lost many children that year. His memories of life faded out since his death because it was many many years ago. But he remembered glimpses. He remembered the way fire brought warmth, the feeling of hunting, of caressing one’s hair. He remembered caring for the young, burying the old. He remembered doing it, he remembered the fear before being electrocuted. And he remembered the devastation of that one winter.

Summary
James is dead, and the man he loved is to be forever out of his reach, and he's trying to come to terms with his sexuality while trapped in a haunted house with multiple ridiculous men. He finds himself thinking improper thoughts about all of them from time to time, and he loathes himself for it. But his attention is grabbed more and more by the two most over-sexed, morally grey men of the group - who have an odd, close, sometimes unhealthy relationship, and both of whom (as he sometimes sees with his own horrified, thrilled eyes) are not wearing any pants. He finds himself getting drawn as a voyeuristic third party more and more into the orbit of their relationship.

“[Mike] opened his mouth to reply but had to pause as nausea took hold of him. He swallowed thickly against the acidic feeling in his chest, against the bile that stung at the back of his throat.
Alison squinted up at him. “Mike? Are you alright?”
There were bright spots upon his vision. He tried to blink them away.
“I’m fine, why?”
“You’ve sort of—” Alison chewed at her lip, concerned. “Well, you’ve sort of got—”
“Good heavens, why can’t I move?” a deep, clipped voice asked. Mike looked over his shoulder, bewildered. Where the hell had that come from?”
Mike gets possessed by the Captain, who cannot seem to figure out his newly discovered power. Trapped together in one body, they must learn to co-exist. Not getting in each other’s way proves to be impossible, however.
