A fix it of the horrible last two episodes of HIMYM. It could possibly be a bit broken up and out of place but it’s set roughly after Ted walks up to Tracy after being nudged on by the old woman. It’s followed up by a time skip of a year and a half. The story’s short and bittersweet, and very self-indulgent, but it made me feel slightly better and hopefully it does for you too.

When HIMYM's ending used the Mother for her ability to give birth to the children Ted always wanted and completely destroyed all the character growth shown by Barney previously, I couldn't accept it. After years of ranting about my theory that this ending would have been better has finally culminated in short fic which I probably will come back and edit one day when I have time to rewatch the ending. I hope you enjoy this if you were as angry as I was about it.

It's one of life's lesser known cruelties, for even as he's had so much, had the insane, unspeakable pleasure to be loved by Lily, Marshall, Barney, even Robin--his wife's absence still sometimes hangs over him like a cloud, hanging over everyone he's with. They can talk about her now, with warmth and humor, it's been six years, you learn to cope with life in six years. But it's still there, that barely restrained rawness in all of their voices. Grief unites you, but that doesn't make it easier.
