“Shut up,” He hisses, and they shrug loosely. “It looks good, Alchemist,” Truth whispers, teeth so white against the dark of the room. They look just as ethereal as the day he first saw them. “It isn’t often you’re as assertive.”
“I like that,” They continue, gaze never leaving his. There are no eyes to watch him, no pupils to slit or irises that shimmer like the sun. Just simply smooth skin and soft ivory that makes his blood so cold. “It makes you look a little firmer. A little less afraid.”

A moment passes and then Riza offers the envelope for Roy to take. "You should have a look at it, sir."
With shaking hands, Roy takes it and opens it. He reaches inside to find a folded up piece of paper and a small metal object. Withdrawing the object, his heartbeat picks up in speed when he can finally see what it is – a silver pocket watch. He doesn't have to open it to know that it's Ed's.
After a moment, he shoves it into his pocket and takes the paper from the envelope to unfold it and read its contents.
'General Mustang,' it reads, 'if you ever want to see the Fullmetal Alchemist alive again, then you will meet me at the location listed below by five o'clock today. Come alone.'

It was too good to be true, he knew, but what if he never got a chance like this again? What if something happened before he could get Al's body back? He didn't want him to live the rest of his life in an unfeeling suit of cold armor. He'd rather die a thousand deaths then let Al continue on like that for any longer than he had to. In less than six months, they had established a routine. They had figured out a schedule that worked for them and they were sticking to it. Roy could call him and make sure everything was okay; Ed had a key to his house.
If Ed came to visit the office and was allowed to do so, Roy would greet him happily.
After years of searching for the answers, hunting down every scrap of information, it felt too easy. Even with seven years of waiting to be older enough that Roy wouldn’t panic about how young he was, it still felt too easy.

The call from Central Command comes as quickly and abruptly as it always does. It’s Ed’s sheepish voice on the other end of the phone, brashly requesting for Winry to make preparations for the long trip home and repair her automail. Winry, of course, is immediately concerned— lately, Ed has been breaking her automail far more often than, well… ever, to the point that Winry's considering just sticking with Ed for a few weeks wherever he travels, just to get her in the habit of maintenance.
So she’s awfully pleased when Ed enters her house to see her arm fully intact, and extremely displeased to note how Ed’s skin was red and puffy, pulled taught where the metal was attached. Ed was sweating, trying her best to stay still, every movement causing a torrent of pain flooding through her. Before Winry could usher him in, Alphonse appeared behind Ed, carrying their luggage and gently nudging her inside.
