Things are, overall, looking up in London now that Crawford Starrick is gone and the Shroud of Eden's safe. What comes next is figuring out where to go from here. How to keep going. It helps at least a little, as far as Jacob Frye's concerned, to have a couple of people around who have been through this whole song and dance before. Who indisputably know what they're doing. He doesn't care all that much about them being vampires, even if most other people would.
None of this actually helps, however, with how rapidly smitten Jacob's finding himself with their newest, first, and so far only recruit to the Brotherhood.

Evie stands watch, next to the bed.
Jacob lies, still and sleeping, underneath the stark white sheets. He breaths in rhythmically, slowly. Nearly silently. The nurses say that its a good sign - that if he were struggling to regain his health, it would be shown in his breathing. Evie doubts as much, but Henry continues to tell her to trust in the nurses, in the doctors. Jacob should be dead, after all.
