Summary
"You keep your heart from your chest./It'll be gone, just like the rest." - Emily Jane White, 'Wild Tigers I Have Known'.
Ned once told her she would have a much easier time wedding south than Lya- amiable, he said, amiable, eager to please, the wolf who would gladly shed her furs for some gossamer and lace, her leather boots for some silk slippers. Sometimes she barely recognizes herself in the looking glass. It’s too hot to wear her hair down so she usually braids it in a crown behind her ‘real’ crown, the golden circlet sculpted into delicately arching antlers, a smaller, lighter version of Robert’s, so dainty and demure.
The pregnancy has already begun to fill out her long face some- along with her rapidly swelling hands and feet- and she has not worn Stark colors since her wedding day. Yet Robert likes her in soft greys, gentle blues, maidenly whites, even forest greens. Anything that reminds him of Lyanna, who always favored cooler colors in her dress.

"I don't believe my will's quite free/I'm half machine, at least half steam./Aquinas, call on me." - Dessa, 'Velodrome'.
“I have a letter we must speak about,” he says, and after a moment’s hesitation, reads it aloud, slowly and clearly, to her.
Aemma stares at him blankly, only registering that it is a letter from the King. She thinks she met the King once, when she was very small and he and his family visited. She couldn’t have been any older than four or five. It was before Prince Duncan ran off with that peasant girl and gave up his rights to the throne. Now it will go to his brother, Prince Jaehaerys. Septa says he was mad for love. Aemma can’t comprehend of such a thing, but then again, she has never fallen in love, and she certainly hopes the first man she falls for is not poor and lowborn, no matter how pretty his looks.
“Aemma,” Father says, gently, “the letter is about you and Prince Maegor.”
(Jon Arryn's daughter by Jeyne Royce survives. Aegon V seeks a marriage into a loyal house for his troublesome nephew. Chaos ensues.)

Summary
Rhaenys Targaryen had no such easy conquest. She flew above the pass, above the red sands and the white, and descended upon Vaith to demand its submission, only to find the castle empty and abandoned. In the town beneath its walls, only women and children and old men remained. When asked where their lords had gone, they would only say, “Away.”
Finally the queen’s flight took her to Sunspear, the ancient seat of House Martell, where she found the Princess of Dorne waiting in her abandoned castle.

Summary
A song of the King that brought night down upon the world and his polar star.
Excerpt:
He returned to his mind, murmuring, “The northern army comes for us. We have perhaps the night, but they will advance with the dawn.”
“You do not have the men to hold Sea Dragon Point,” his companion stated, always the realist, “Not from the concentrated efforts of the Kings of Winter. And I am not the help I once was..."
...Soon their kind would be hunted into nothing, only myths and fables to carry their legacy onward.
So was to be all their fate, it seemed.

"All our silence could not excuse/Disappoint or further prove/Anything other than what we already know." - MS MR, 'All the Things Lost'.
“Who did you promise?” she asks him, tearful with alarm and terror.
He gives an odd sort of little half smile, then rasps, “Lyanna. I always kept my promises. She would have been so angry with me… otherwise. I had to help her. It was the only way.”
“What was the only way?” Catelyn feels cold sweat dripping down her back, feels slightly feverish herself. “What do you mean, Ned? Did Lyanna ask you to do something?”
“Keep him away… from Robert,” he whispers. “To protect him.”
(Mortally wounded during the Greyjoy Rebellion, a delirious Ned makes a deathbed confession to Catelyn, leaving her to pick up the pieces of both her life and Jon Snow's.)

Between the vacillating predilections of the ever-displeased players in the game, the realm awaits with baited breath to see whose will is stronger. On the one side, those who have been rewarded by the King are relentless in their support. On the other hand, the alienated lion stews in his own anger, not quite defeated and not quite prepared to let go of his hopes. And there are those who are all too willing to aid.
Meantime, the ruler and his family immerse themselves in the strengthening of their new-found winged weapons. And they drown in tragedies of their own making, large and small alike.
Or, Lyanna Stark makes the mistake of believing herself in control, to dire consequences.

Dawn's kiss was never kind.
Arthur could be, though. Especially when there had been a knighting, and oaths spoken softly at the gleam of a starmetal blade, and a cut that Jaime barely felt, and sealed blood to bind them.
Especially when there was water, streaming down his strong, gentle hands.

Summary
"You saunter beside me, talking of the beauty of the morning, not even knowing that there has been a flood." - Margaret Atwood, "After the Flood, We."
Mother pauses, having reached the end of all her curls, and then splays her palm flat on Argella’s head, as if to impart some wisdom or blessing. “He left Jenny Mudd at Summerhall,” she says quietly, because there are little mice and spiders and birds all around the Red Keep, and they all wind their merry little way back to Aegon and his upstart Hand. Argella’s impending good father has never been anything but kind, gracious, and conciliatory to her and her family. But they do not forget, and neither does he. Her father was one raven away from declaring rebellion against the Iron Throne when Aegon finally managed to bring his boy to heel.
(Duncan weds Lyonel Baratheon's daughter, but refuses to set aside his beloved Jenny. Argella Baratheon dreams of rain, and waits for the flood.)

Summary
The Origins and the lives of the first Baratheons and the last Durrandons.
Told mostly from the pov of Argella Durrandon but expanding with different chapters.Spanning the end of one world to the beginning of the next, the events of the last Storm and the following years. The Storm Queen remains a fascinating figure as one of the few women who opposed the creation of the Iron throne. Still, a queen must learn to adapt and learn how to thrive.
Conversely, Orys Baratheon, a warrior and one of Aegon's only friends must take on a new role. That of a lord of a people who accepted him only to save their own lives and a husband of a wife who would rather have died than submit.
Tired of fighting, he wants no more victories by conquest, unlike his Targaryen kin, and together with this belligerent, proud people and their beautiful and stubborn queen, a new world begins to be forged from the storm and the dragonflame.
