Karl thought the stories to be sweet, and hearing the pure adoration in Sapnap’s voice when he talked about his old friend filled the prince with a sense of bittersweet longing. Longing for a life he never got to live, for a person he never got to meet, for a soul he never got to love.He never knew Quackity, but he knew as much as Sapnap did, and if that was enough to make him fall in love, then by God, Karl had fallen too.

He had spent nights making up scenarios of what Karl was like. A tyrant who only wanted to marry Sapnap to gain access to their large army. A dictator who wanted Sapnap’s hand to have control over their money. An oppressor who had nefarious plans and only hatred in his heart.
Instead Karl was sweet, he was pure. He held back on swearing but when he got mad at his novels or his paintings for not turning out how he wanted them too he had a mouth worse than Quackity and Sapnap combined. He was good with children and ventured out often to meet with the townspeople, helping with their orphanages and food drives.
Karl was perfect, and he was perfect for Sapnap.
And wasn’t that just the issue?

Sapnap laughed, “You’ll get used to them, they’re just really formal” Sapnap said. “I can tell” Karl said, looking in their general direction.
OR:
Karl is betrothed to Quackity, but Karl falls in love with Sapnap, Sapnap also loves Karl, does Quackity actually like Karl? Who knows. Quackity finds out Sapnap and Karl are dating, and things go south really fast.

“What?” Dream asks dryly, stretching his back out when he stands up. He reaches over to grab his trousers, sticking his right foot in first, and hoping not to fall to the floor when he puts his left foot through.
“Nothing, you just…look absolutely out of it right now, man. I’ve never seen you this upset over a fitting before,” Sapnap tells him, cocking his head to the side. Dream stares at him, even-eyed and rustled hair. “I’m just, I’m just not really looking forward to this ball. I’m probably going to walk away with not getting what my mother wants for me.”

"Where are you darling?" His mother asked.
"Paris," Karl answered curtly. "I needed to get away."
"Oh, so you're running away?" His father's voice boomed in his mother's background. "What are you? Six? Running away because you won't eat your vegetables?" He scolded.
"I-" Karl rolled his eyes and scoffed at his father's words.
No longer was he feeling guilty for his mother, though he was, he was angrier at his father and that somehow takes precedence.
"If you're asking me to throw my life away in two weeks, you can let me go to Paris until then," Karl replied curtly.
"You don't have a security detail, we don't know where you are, who you're with. The paparazzi might get you, rebels might get you, you-"
"I'm old enough to get married, I'm old enough to figure out how to not get murdered," Karl told him.
Despite it being the 21st century, Karl's parents decided to tell him, the prince of Kinoko Kingdom, that he is to be wedded through a mutually beneficial agreement with another prince. Yeah, it's as stupid as it sounds. So Karl left to spend two weeks in Paris, and that's where he met someone who swept him off his feet.

When all three are allowed to attend a annual meeting of the Kings of the Realms, destinies collide and a glowing warmth from the fire of the Prince borne of fire sparks the End-less care from the others and a colourful love overall.
